People Recall Their Least Favorite Internet Trends

People Recall Their Least Favorite Internet Trends

Word on the street is, if you were on the internet between 2005 and 2012, you're entitled to financial compensation.

You must remember those dark days: Superwholock, the Supernatural/Doctor Who/Sherlock megafans who populated tumblr; Rebecca Black's Friday; videos like "The Evolution Of Dance" and "Shoes." What was the internet back then?

It's unrecognizable today, but for those of us who were there...we remember.

CabbageBallerina asked:

What is the worst internet trend that you remember?

Here were some of those answers.

So Many Vines Did This

"Social Experiments". The term was abused by pranksters to cause inconvenience, but then immediately say it's a social experiment, so that the victims are more reluctant to voice their anger, and the pranksters can get away with it.

Oh God, so true. It's just straight up harassing people on the street

NO MORE CHALLENGES

"_______ challenge"

99% were just horrible for your health. Things like the cinnamon challenge. The worst I saw it get was someone tried to start the 'Fire Extinguisher Challenge'. The guy put the nozzle in his mouth and hit the lever. No matter what extinguisher you're using, this is incredibly stupid. What's worse though, is he picked a Dry Chemical extinguisher. The second he hit that lever, he blasted a lifetimes worth of micro particulate into his lungs. His lungs are absolutely, unequivocally, well and truly messed up.

Chemical Burns, Woo?

"Fire Breath" Spray your mouth with Lysol or some sort of flammable refreshing spray, salivate a little to get a projectile, activate a lighter in front of your mouth, then proceed to spit in front of the lighter which should have a big puff of fire come out but instead it results in you burning the inside of your mouth.

So Much Mooing

FarmVille. All of my aunts let their young children create Facebook accounts just so they could send themselves gifts through them. My Facebook feed used to be full of pictures of everyone's farms.

Say No To Drugs

I dont use or have used Tiktok ever but I remember watching a Youtube video about the Benadryl challange where you swallow 300mg of it wich can lead to trips that might traumatise you or cause heart problems. I also heard that apparently a teen girl died trying it but Im not sure about that.

Fake Films

Not so bad these days but i remember about 10 years ago when Youtube had a real problem with fake trailers for "upcoming" movies.

Halo movie trailer, Friends movie teaser, etc.

Hard to believe it didn't break any rules on Youtube.

ThatKiwiBloke

Ah, Myspace

Those terrible, gif-style blinky "dollz" that people would dress up, like avatars, and have linked via HTML on their blogs and Myspaces. I remember once making the mistake of going to dolls.com instead of dollz.com on a school computer and it popping up porn, lol. This was before the kinda white-listing we have now, I think, hahaha. Must've been circa 2001.

Those Days Are BAEhind Us

Licking the top of ice cream and putting it back at stores "challenge" was the worst one.

I'm glad the term "Bae" died out. It was cringeworthy watching grown ass adults say it all the time.

People filming themselves being a-holes to other people. Physically harming them in some cases, then going iTs jUst a pRAnK bRo. Just stop.

These god awful videos, usually Tik tok, where people drive like maniacs passing everyone, swerving between lanes and blasting music while laughing like Maniacs. Yeah it's just so cool to endanger lives for internet points.

Should Not And Are Not

Those "what other girls want: boys vs what I want: food" memes like whut all of my female friends from back at elementary who used to post these memes all are like chasing after boys now that we're in college. And besides, food and boys doesn't have to be mutually exclusive anyways.

Relationships are hard, and sometimes, they're confusing. When you're having a problem with your partner, or you're inexperienced and looking for lessons, you turn to your friends and family for advice.

Sometimes, the advice is sound and helps make things better.

Other times, the advice is trash and makes everything worse.

Redditors know this all too well, and are sharing the worst relationship advice they've ever gotten.

It's easy to assume things about history since we weren't actually there. We're taught to believe everything we read, but often times, it takes more research to figure out the truth.

There are a lot of historical figures we believe were bad based on what we first read or heard. However, upon further research, we find out they weren't actually that bad.

Some of them got a bad reputation even though all they did was make a mistake. Others just weren't appreciated for their ideas and inventions during their own time. Some of them are even heroes!

It seems Redditors did some of that extra research and are ready to share their findings.

People Reveal The Turnoffs That Make Them Not Want To Have Sex With Their Significant Other

Sex and relationships can be very dramatic.

It's not always fun and sweat. More often than not, it turns into wine and snores.

The truth is, it's not difficult to turn someone off.

One minute you're a hot dish. The next, you're stale meatloaf.

The question is, who is responsible?

Or is this relationship dead?
