I used to deliver cookies in college. It was ultimately a pretty sweet gig (pun intended), but the owner was a micromanaging jerk.

On 4/20 (our busiest day) I was working a 12 hr shift (no I didn't have any breaks, yes it was illegal). I ended up witnessing an assault, called the cops, yadda yadda. The second I was done giving my statement I got back in my car and had the biggest panic attack I've ever had.

Finally got to the point where I could drive back to the store but was so shaken I couldn't actually communicate to anyone what was going on. My manager luckily figured out something was up and sent me home with two hours left on my shift, saying they'd figure something out.

I got a text from the owner about 30 minutes after I left because he noticed I clocked out early. I told him everything, including the fact that I still couldn't breath normally. He asked me who I'd gotten to cover the rest of my shift. I didn't respond to him but I told my manager I was quitting effective immediately and sent a screenshot of the owner's text as reasons why.

Finals week was coming up at the college and I had signed up for at least one shift a day for the entire week and a half. I was a year and a half into the job and one of the most experienced workers at that point because he couldn't keep most employees longer than a few weeks/months. 90% of the people working there had only been there a few weeks - i.e., only worked a couple shifts and had no idea where the special deals were/how to work the computer/what the routes were.

I was loyal to the company but the management wasn't fantastic and I was severely underpaid. I had a friend who knew about my work situation and without telling me referred me to his much better job. They were so short handed that there wasn't enough people for a shift. They had 5 total employees. But now I have way better way, insurance, and great management. Liquorland. After being lied to, screwed out of a healthy redundancy package that I was entitled to and had a bevy of false accusations placed against me so they could fire me (none of them stuck because they were made up), I quit in my own special way.

I first waited until my store manager, area manager and state manager all were on annual leave and I'd be running the shop. I then got a doctor's note giving me three weeks off work for a strained back muscle.

That afternoon, on Friday - the busiest trading day of the week - half an hour after taking over I wrote my resignation emails. One went to the CEO, upper management and board members detailing how I'd been screwed over by my managers for the previous eighteen months, threatening legal action and going to the press if my leave payouts were withheld. The second was to my area manager's email (who was uncontactable on leave), stating my two week's notice to resign and attaching a copy of my doctor's certificate that said I was unable to work.

Then, I shut and locked the doors, threw the keys in the safe and went home. I turned my phone off, drank two bottles of wine and played some Final Fantasy.

On the following Monday, I checked my bank account to find all my annual leave paid out and my two weeks of notice paid out as sick leave.

I was working at a small bar/hotel in some remote place. The manager was an absolute tool, just rude to staff and the customers and unpleasant to be around. There was only a small handful of staff there expected to work all day every day, myself included (we were casuals). I worked 9 long days in a row - finishing really late and getting up really early in the morning to come back and clean the hotel, with not many hours in between (pretty sure illegal in Aus). It also wasn't that close to my house - about a 40 min drive each way.

I had a day off after my long stint doing lots of shifts which I was excited about and planned a nice day out with my bf but the manager rings me the day before to ask me to cover someone's shift who wanted it off. I said no I had plans. He lost his cool and told me when I started I agreed to work weekends and I need to be available. Well yeah I worked every weekend since I started and I would have been available but I wasn't rostered on originally.

Decided I had enough of being treated like crap and the money wasn't worth it to dread coming to work. I don't like confrontation and felt bad my friend got me the job so I wrote a letter quitting and planned to leave it on managers desk and GTFO of there. Plan half failed cause I got asked to stay back at work and panicked cause manager was out so it was perfect to leave the letter on his desk but if I stayed back he'd be back and I wouldn't have the chance.

Stayed back for a bit then decided stuff it I'm leaving so said I forgot I had an appointment, dropped the letter and ran - I was casual so didn't have to give notice. Manager has a big party booked in for the next day and I was his only staff who could work it - NOT ANYMORE! He rang me non stop for 2 days and I ignored it - best decision ever.

I worked as a small engine repair tech for a larger company. I am also in the National Guard. I had gotten hurt and needed physical therapy and one or two days a month I would have to miss because of an extended drill weekend. Well my boss didn't like that and she decided that she would punish me by making me stay later than everyone else. She was punishing me for going to physical therapy for a workplace injury and for being a soldier.

Now, you may be thinking, having to stay late to keep up on your work doesn't sound like that much of a punishment. Normally, you would be right but trust me, she was doing a lot more to make sure it was a punishment.
Well, one day after being told that I was not given approval for the ONE DAY of vacation I asked for THREE MONTHS in advance to go see the eclipse and generally being treated like a slave, I was like, "why am I doing this to myself?" and clocked out at the end of my shift.

That next Monday after drill weekend, I showed up, packed up all my tools and took off. My boss started freaking out when she saw what I was doing. I left and found out that me leaving cost her over 100k dollars because she had to ship my workload to another state to get another shop to work on them. That meant she needed to pay to ship them, and then pay to ship them back and since her shop didn't do any of the actual work, she never saw any money for any of the repairs. it was over 80 Riding mowers.

Worked for a landscape company doing new installs. Our owner was cheap with a bad habit of constantly biting off more than he could chew. One year he asked if we wanted any part of a school project in a city we didn't live in (over 2 hours away) and we said no. He said that was fine and would just bid on one school for his crew who lived in that area. Instead he bid on multiple schools and got three of them. Obviously, none of us are happy about this and he claimed that he'd put us up in hotels so we wouldn't have to commute. He never did.

The work itself sucked, way more than a crew our size could handle and the owner's brother did absolutely nothing. He was supposed to be the project manager/supervisor and literally all he did was play Clash of Clans on his phone and yell about people not being fast enough. After a few days, I was done. I'd grown sick of the job anyway but this project really sealed it. Having to commute 4+ hours a day and then physically destroy myself was taking a toll fast. I woke up Friday morning, called the owner, told him I quit and to stop taking more work than he can manage. He blew up but I just hung up the phone and went back to sleep.

Two weeks later I get a call from him. He's begging me to come back because after I quit, two other guys did too. The project is now woefully behind schedule and he's going to get fined if things don't pick up and get finished. I told him he should've thought of that before he bit off more than he could chew and expected a small crew to do it all in a short time frame. He got quiet and then asked if a 50 cent raise would get me back. Hahaha no. Last time I ever heard from him and I can't find his company website anymore.

18 years old. Assistant manager at a big pizza franchise. Had been working open to close for 2 weeks straight because the new GM went on vacation right after taking over the store. When she got back from her vacation she worked a half day (i opened and still closed) then she changed the schedule and took 2 days off.

This was the last straw on top of a ton of other stuff piled over a year (multiple new GMs, crappy district manager, awful store politics) I was alone during an unusually large lunch rush and was just done with everyone's crap. I had a makeline full of orders, phones ringing, oven full of pizza, orders to be picked up, and a massive batch of dough sitting on the prep table. I shut the oven off, walked out, and locked the store. Didnt call anyone to let them know. It would be hours before the evening driver would roll in.

No prep for the day, no dough for the day except for da blob im sure would become a massive mess after rising for hours, a double deck oven with both belts full of pies wasted and what was probably shaping to be a $1200 lunch out the window.

When I was a programmer at an insurance company, one of the long-time programmers had been with the company for nearly 20 years. This guy originally wrote most of the financial system himself, from scratch, and had maintained it with the help of a couple of other people. Every month he did the month-end processing and every quarter he did the quarter-end processing. Every year end? Yep, it was him.

There was a change in management a couple of times, and he kept getting treated worse and worse. He was being treated unfairly, asked to do unreasonably more work than he was already doing, getting thrown under the bus, that kind of thing.

He finally had enough and one morning he came in, walked to the manager's office and quit, then walked out the door. In the aftermath it took a team of four other people, months and months to get things back together and to a point where things were serviceable.

Shoppers Drugmart.

I had simply asked for better hours after working ridiculous late night hours for over a year. Instead they hired a new guy and gave him the exact hours i asked for and then had me train him. So when training wasn't going very well because new guy was super slow? They blamed me for it.

Now I had a good standing with everyone at this store but I didn't need Shoppers and I let a lot slide everyday. So again when I asked for a vacation that I deserved because I was never sick and punctual as all hell. I was denied it and the next day the manager had 4 weeks of vacation set. So to "make it up" to me they offered me all these insane overtime shifts for the next 3 weeks.

So I waited for the frozen deliveries to arrive that same day. The boss was packing up to go home and when he said good night to me I said "but who is going to do this frozen delivery?" He laughed and said "you are."so i replied. "Nope." and he became super cross so I started laughing. "What are you laughing about?" he says!

So i said "I quit." Now there was no one to finish the night shift.

He immediately asks for the uniform lol "Nah, i said screw yourself. I quit."

I had never done that before or since. Uniform went in the trash.

Always worked the close shift at a fast food joint. My managers LOVED to hand out citations for any little thing. The policy was 3 strikes and you're out. I had two strikes left and was told to clean up the entire front end and bathroom in an hour or risk getting a third strike.

To put things in perspective, I had to close the register, count the money, clean up the front end, restock everything, sweep and mop the floors, and clean the entire bathroom (including the toilets) for basically $8.05.

I walked into the bathroom, just to see what to expect. Looked like someone had finished projectile pooping all over the toilet.

I knew I wouldn't be able to do everything in an hour and that I would get fired regardless. So, I took my uniform off and walked home shirtless.

Worked as the engineer at the mill, was responsible for operation and process adjustment of certain piece of equipment. Made it works with better than specified results, but my managers required MORE PRODUCTION, LESS POWER, etc.

So, at the point machine reached it`s capacity, and further pushing was risky and huge amount of invest was needed, I was told by brass, that "You didn`t even try to do it, only say some lame excuses."

I was full of this stuff and called to the manufacturer of this equipment. Long story short - instead of instructions and advices, they sent me a job offer for local service rep.

After I quit the mill, my ex colleagues tried to push machine above the limits and successfully broke it and stop the production for couple of weeks.

I had a job as a fairly niche field service engineer in IT. Started off covering my local area, which was fine, maybe an hour travelling time to my most remote site, tops. then they lost an engineer in my adjacent territory and I had to cover that too. put my travel time up to about 2 1/2 hours each way that wasn't great, but it was temporary, allegedly. *Then* they lost a further engineer and guess what, I had to cover that area too. That meant I was having to do up to 4 hours driving each way just to get to a site, and then they expected me to put in up to a full 8 hour day.

I mentioned this to my manager and pointed out that if I was pulling multi-day jobs at a site 4 hours away it'd be far better to put me up in a hotel, but they said 'nah' as it was unusual for me to do multi day installs. Anyway, a month or so later, I was expected to put in a compete new system at a site, spec'ed up 4 full days to do it, high profile client and I basically told my manager I needed a hotel. They pushed back, 'it's only 4 days' you'll be fine, just charge them the travel time as worked hours.

Which is fine, but I was salaried and they were the ones invoicing the client so no overtime for me.

Anyway, on the second day I arrived at nearly lunchtime after a massive accident on the motorway held me up for 4 hours and got a complete bollocking off the client for it, I thought 'screw this', packed my tools, left the site with their old system ripped out and a pile of unopened boxes of new kit, switched off my mobile and drove to head office.

Parked close enough to the main entrance that the car operated the automatic doors, went into reception, and told the receptionist (very politely, it wasn't her fault) that I quit, all my gear was in the car and here are my keys, phone and pass, then walked out and got a cab home.

Found out from a friend that they lost that client, which was one of their main ones, even after my manager basically spent the rest of the week installing the kit on his own, without any documentation as I'd written the spec and 'accidentally' kept it.

Dairy came in. Cheese came in. A bit over $130k. (Huge fancy cheese in whole wheels, a large generally organic dairy shipment). I refused to sign any damn thing.

GM demanded I sign and put it away. Signing was already out of my pay grade, those numbers made it way the hell out of my pay grade. He then demanded I put it all away, it would have taken the rest of my shift for my own work...i just quit. Screw it. Heard he signed it in and it all went to waste. He was fired.

I worked 25 years for a large company in the sales division. I was making 6 figures and had earned my role as VP of the west coast. My plan was to stick around to retirement

But then we got a new president. And the new president was a jerk to everyone. I saw one sales guy walk up all excited and offer a handshake to meet him. The president didn't shake the extended hand and instead said "I can't believe you came here without polishing your shoes". The president gave a directive for me to stop hiring people with business or sales experience and to start just hiring attractive men and women. Because "their good looks will sell product better than the educated words of a veteran salesperson, plus they are young and work cheaper." I went along with this request and made 2 such hires.

Then the next request came along "tell me who is the worst member of your team right now," I explained my team was #1 in the company and were all doing well, but the weakest one 8 year employee who had a bad year last year. He was making less frequent calls and the quality of calls was dropping. I had to place him on a PIP to improve in 3 months. And he did! He busted butt, worked long hours and weekends. And moved into the #1 spot on my team.

At the end of the 3 months th president calls me to discuss the PIP. I explain the great progress and that I want to release him from the PIP because he is on-track now.

The reply was "well there's probably other things wrong with him anyway so terminate him and document it. Make sure to hire a young attractive person as a replacement"

I quit on the spot with zero days notice (unusual for a white collar job) and told him to do his own dirty work.

Now I work as a high school teacher LOL.

On day 2 she went and asked my previous managers about my sex life. The one that really peeved me was she specifically asked my last employer who was employing my room mate while my room mate was on shift if I was sleeping with my room mate.

On day 3 she got mad at me for doing something wrong after refusing to train me. I asked numerous times about pricing shoes. She would just do one silently without showing me where to look on the scanner or what exactly she was scanning or anything and then hand it back as if she had retrained me.

On day 4 she berated me saying if I quit it would royally mess her vacation up, which was the only reason she hired me over the other person. But now she wouldnt have time to train a new person to cover her vacation which was still 2 months out. My room mate put in notice at her job on this day.

On day 5 manager hears that room mate got a better job. She confronts me saying I better not quit and then asks if I planned on putting in two weeks. I tell her I'd been considering because she refused to train me and she was asking inappropriate questions to my previous employers. She went off on me, yelling at me on the sales floor telling me not to ever come back. She then put that she had terminated me in my paper work due to insubordination and theft as well as sending my one and only paycheck to the wrong address 5 times before i finally got hr to just cancel the old checks and mail it directly to me.

Edit: My last day was on a Saturday. All except one of her staff quit by the following tuesday, 3 days later. I accidentally brought one of the box knives home. I called asking if she wanted it back and she threatened to call the cops if I ever showed up again. During the trying to get my check, I mentioned the questioning of my previous employers. They said they would deal with it. I moved out of town and never went back anyways so not sure if she still works there. I did get my check, however she lied about how much I would be making so I was about 30$ a short because I was making 13 hourly instead of 14.50. Was so fed up with everything I said screw that and just called it the amount I would willingly pay to have her out of my life forever

Worked at a KFC. A kid had pooped into his hands and flung it at the ceiling where it promptly fell down and splattered on the floor, from what I had gathered.

Sometimes you have to do bad things in your job. I wish we had the staff to be able to do poopy things. We're supposed to have 4 people out front. 3 serving/packing, 1 on the floor. They only had me because they wouldn't get anyone else in.

I had to straight up tell people "Yes ma'am, I know there's poop on the floor in the toilet but I can't clean it right now because there's 20 people in the queue and I have to pack orders".

People in the middle of the queue started shouting "OPEN ANOTHER TILL" like I can just magic people from thin air, a woman waiting for her order is giving me the evilest effing glare that I'm taking an order rather than packing hers and I just gave up.

I had 2 hours left in my shift, it was only going to get busier so I just left the front, grabbed my stuff from the locker room and walked out without saying a word. All I wanted was to get home, log onto WoW, crack open a beer and wind down in what ended up being a near orgasmic level of peace.

So yeah, there was maybe 20 people waiting in line including people who had paid for food and were waiting, poo on the ceiling and floor in the mens toilets and nobody to serve customers. Quite the show.

I regret leaving people there who had paid for food, but there's only so much you can handle, especially when it feels like you've got 20 odd people mad at you and no one to back you up.

Oh boy! Let me tell you of my last day of Walmart!

It's Monday morning (my day off), and I was pulling out of M.D. Anderson after getting bloodwork done, when I receive a call from my manager (let's call her boss). Boss asks me to come into work because of 2 calloffs. Thinking that I did not have anything else planned, and could use the overtime, I agreed. I informed her over the phone it would take me an hour to get home, dress, and drive to work. All I heard was a annoyed "Fine, just get here."

1 hour later I arrived at work. Just as I was getting to the Deli (where I work), my manager, who was behind the counter by herself, starts yelling at me for being late... infront of not 1, not 2, but a line of customers... I attempt to remind her of our conversation, but she cuts me off, tosses me her apron, and storms out of the Deli. I am forced to shrug it off, apologize to the customers, and get to work.

Later, I have a customer walk to the deli and ask about our rotisserie chicken, something not uncommon. I explain it will be over an hour before they are ready, and suggest driving 5 minutes north to the other Walmart. He nods, thanks me, and walks away towards the front. I thought nothing of it, and continued to cook popcorn chicken. 5 minutes later, the same customer comes back with none other than Boss, who is asking me about the rotisserie chicken.

I, once again, attempt to explain how long the chicken has left to cook, and the suggestion I made. No sooner than when I finished speaking she berates me for being lazy, and telling a customer to go elsewhere. I ask what else is there I could do, as I couldn't make the oven cook faster. Her next words stick to this day: "I want you to do your job, or you can kiss it goodbye."

A moment of pause from everyone. Zoe and May have been listening in the entire time, as well as the customers they were helping. I ponder, then smile. "Ok." I apologize to Zoe and May, wish them the best of luck, and walk out of the Deli towards my manager. I stop in front of her, take off my apron, kiss it, say "goodbye," and walk out of the store. I still have my namebadge and hat to this day.

I worked as a porter at a pretty busy bakery once. The owner must've been at least 500 pounds and being that this was a family business, his wife ran the front of the shop. It wasn't long before she started making passes at me and grabbing me in extremely inappropriate ways. I was 18 at the time and she must've been in her 50's. Either way this was very unwelcome attention and eventually I got fed up and quit.

I specifically chose a holiday (Valentine's Day) because I knew that they would be swamped. I was tasked with cleaning everything up at the end of the day and prepping everything for the next day. Needless to say I left everything the way it was, did not prep a single thing and dumped a bunch of flour on the floor and spelled out "I quit" in the flour. Gaming site I used to write for. This all happened in the span of two months.

The new owner made us writers lose all credibility to by writing unedited articles on his own and posting them freely, and they were the most widely ridiculous and racist pieces I'd ever read. In one of them he said women only bought the Wii because they use the wii mote as a sex toy. It made the rest of us look bad.

He fired my friend simply because he didn't like him. He tried to claim my friend kept our review copy of Skyward Sword.

There was more stuff that he did that I can't remember. My father died in December of that year. I informed everyone. I had also lost internet access for a while because my provider was switching the way their routers and stuff connected. I had too much going on at the time to deal with that. When I connected to the McDonalds WiFi one day I read a barrage of emails from the new owner.

I emailed him and CC'd everyone on the writing staff, and told him he could go get bent. 90% of the writing staff followed.

5 writers quit that day, and people took notice. The site never recovered, and today it only exists as a landing page and hub for one podcast that just refuses to die.

After that the owner took to stalking the guy who hired most of his writing staff, online harassment, and most recently, he hacked the previous owner's email and stole his Destiny 2 review code. He's still out there being a fool, but I only hear about it since I have him blocked on all social media. cerebralshrike

I was a prepress graphic designer for a mom and pop print shop. A convention was coming up that they'd be traveling to in the next week or so when his micromanaging and overbearing nature went over the top on me as a new (3 months in) employee. After a mistake free month (ie penny pinching business where 50 sheets of a job done wrong would get a scolding) I printed a small job on the wrong paper.

We had three different people writing up job tickets three different ways, and when I brought this to his attention in a professional manner, and could we maybe try to change this, he tried to say I was blaming everyone else for my mistakes. Then he went off and said it's my job to decipher those 3 pages of a job ticket (or 2, or 4, depending on who created it) and find the necessary information (ie understand their shorthand) to do my job correctly. "and if you don't like it, get out!"

"I'll take my leave then," I said evenly and got up, started packing my stuff, wondering what I was gonna tell my fiance as this was 2009 and the economy in our area was terrible. He must have realized how far up the creek he was if I left b/c he basically came up to me with tears in his eyes apologizing and begging me to stay on and think about it. I had already interviewed for another job but hadn't gotten a phone call yet, so I agreed. Got the job, put in my notice, left after two weeks (and after their convention trip), never looked back. I was working at a Burger King shortly after high school. Now, overall, I am not a minority, but at this fast food place, I was. I got along with most of the people that worked there, and was promoted to shift supervisor not long after getting hired. A couple of the other managers had it in for me, even trying to argue that I was only a shift manager during the night.

One day, it finally all came to a head; I was running the drive-thru. I had closed the previous night and all my money was properly accounted for, but now was missing about $300 suddenly when another manager went to count it. I honestly think she took the money, and tried to blame it on me.

I took off the headset for the drive-thru, swung it over my head, and slammed it into the ground, yelled out, "I quit," before walking out the back door. On my way out, I saw a couple of cars had pulled up in the drive-thru. When we arrived to the spot, me and the other workers were overwhelmed by the number of the people and we had to keep things going so we worked slowly to ensure that everyone got what they deserved. Shortly after, our supervisors came and started yelling at us for how bad we were working and how we were scum for not wanting to really help the poor.

People (The poor) stood with the supervisors and started to talk trash. We looked at each other and we were like "We quit, deal with the rest," he said that we would sue us for doing this (Even when we volunteered for a paid job). The people started to steal and loot what we were holding.

I was on a conference call with a boss and all of the remote reps going over new equipment and black Friday promotions. I worked in a liquor store for 3 years dealing with all kinds of crap:

1. It was an old building with very poor insulation and heating so it was veeery cold every winter.
2. I refused service to drunk customers (as it is law) and 9/10 they'd get angry and yell at me, cursing my family and whatnot. I begged the owners for the power to ban them but never got any. They didn't even give a warning in the worst cases. They just wanted the money.
3. I worked 6 days a week if I couldn't get a replacement on a Saturday, sometimes.
4. I opened and closed every work day, ordered and handled new shipment every time, filled the stocks, swept sand and shoveled outside the store and cleaned the inside floor and fridges. Counted sales and profit. I did it all; the owners just waited for the profit at the end of each day and I came by with the cash.
5. Never got a raise, no nothing, never had proper heating installed despite bringing it up every winter. No power to deny the worst douchebags from shopping there again.

I got so sick of the lack of respect I started treating the store as my own warehouse on Saturday nights when beer ran out at parties (Employees had a tab so I just put the beer on mine, never stole a thing). They got a whiff of it and fired me.

The store closed after 3 months because no one else could deal with all the crap. Drix1942

No word of a lie, my role at my level at my last job was busier than anyone else who also had my role across the entire business.

In relation to workload, jobs processed and coordinated etc, I was often the busiest, having 5 UK counties to cover, thousands of properties to secure and tens of thousands of vulnerable people to keep safe.

I often had over 100 jobs in the process, whereas other people with my job title might have had about 15-30.

Repeatedly asked for more staff, to help bring my workload down, repeatedly asked for more training because I wanted to be sure it wasn't me making the job list so big, repeatedly had my staff telling me how unhappy they were and being unwilling to perform jobs in certain areas.

In fairness it was a role that was entirely new in the branch when I took the seat so they hadn't worked out how to train people to do my job with relation to the new contracts we were undertaking, but they also weren't willing to invest in my training to ensure we were both doing our best. Me and 5 more of my friends got sick of the Management.

We would work every single day early morning till late at night. When we used to ask management (who are supposed to work shifts) to help us with some shifts especially when we wanted to take vacation they would tell us no and continue smoking

The weekend they where meant to open two new outlets, me and 5 other friends all left together and took our notice as leave which meant they had absolutely no one to work on those days.

Really do love going and eating there on my weekends off whilst they work their butts off because no one wants to go work at their stupid place :') luiluna

Worked on a farm and one of my biggest duties at the time was to cut down thorn trees and poison the stumps. After several weeks I was told I wasn't fast enough. Never mind the record breaking heat and working by myself. They hired my cousin's bf the next day after I left. You know what? He quit the very same day and his reasoning was that the work was just too damn much. They didn't know what they had when I busted my tail for them. Left an auto parts store the Saturday before they fired the assistant manager and the other keyholder for theft. They expected me to take the assistant position for a 50 cent raise (9.75 total), and work 60-70 hours a week to help keep stuff going smoothly. Told me my upcoming vacation to Europe (fully paid for) could no longer happen, and I'd be on call every day and to expect to work every day. Family, school, second job - all on hold, out the window, didn't matter what was going on, I was to be at work every day.

Rather than put up with that, I left my key on the manager's desk and walked out. The assistant manager that was to be fired ended up doing what I did Sunday night after closing - key on the desk, never came back. The only other keyholder was arrested the next week for theft. Never went back, last I heard the manager was pulling doubles each day and the district manager was having to go in to help cover shifts. acer34p3r

Worked in an Indian restaurant when I was 17 (too young to serve alcohol or be behind the bar but the boss was horrible). Most of us waitresses/bartenders were friends and the same age. He would treat us like crap one minute and then be super nice but pervy to us the next. On Valentines day, we were booked out and getting dozens of takeaway orders. Only 3 wait-staff. He started telling at us to work faster and we started to make mistakes as we were getting upset. He would scream louder, in front of customers.

One by one, he made each of us cry. So, we all walked out. When he came after us we told him to piss off and deal with his busiest night of the year himself. The look on his face was priceless. Didn't get paid. Didn't care. They were shut down a few months later after multiple illegal immigrant operations kept finding him guilty of hiring and harboring illegal immigrants. Really sad as the guys we worked with were so nice and just wanted to earn a living. megabus69

I started a job building and troubleshooting electronic equipment. I was told I would get a raise after 90 days and again at six months. He hired a woman to do all of the wire wrapping for a big order. There were only two of us and I asked my boss how she was doing because I did not have time to examine her work he told "she's doing fine she's really fast."

I knew how picky the customer was and the directions they provided for the assembly were very explicit. Sure enough we finish the project it's delivered to the customer. The woman who did the wire wrap quite immediately afterwards every thing she had done was rejected. It all got returned to me and it all had to be inspected and then repaired.

I spent three months getting everything done. I went to my boss and said "I was supposed to get a raise." He tells me he did give me a raise and I said it's not in my paycheck. We went around about it and I thought that's it I'm done. I found another job when I told my boss I needed the next Monday off so I could do my physical for my new job. My boss was pissed and said you should leave right now, I said you are firing me for giving notice?

Cool and I immediately walked out. Now I was in the middle of fabricating and wiring a pretty large piece of equipment. I heard later when he realized what I left him he got very angry and was throwing things and screaming. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.deadeyeAZ

I used to run 4 different stores in a large sandwich chain, which also did catering. Three of my stores were in hospitals and were fairly busy and my other one might as well have been a catering only store for the college it was in. There were no customers except catering orders. So I was running around always delivering these catering orders when the chain doesn't even offer delivery. I'm talking $1000-$3000 orders so they were not small. I used my own personal vehicle and was salaried at the time. I was working 70+ hours a week easy. I hit all my bonus targets and didn't see a bonus in 6 months from any of my stores.

I kept being told it was "processing." So I had a week long vacation planned that required me going out of country. They tried to tell me that I couldn't have my paid earned vacation time off an hour before I was scheduled to fly out. I had everything covered so that staff would be fine when I left but the area manager messed up and suddenly he couldn't work what he said he would.

I told him to have fun with now running 4 stores because I quit and will be contacting a lawyer about my pay. I hung up and left to go to Canada and never came back to the US. Flew 2000 miles away and started a new life.

Funny thing is that a week later I ended up getting a check with all my missing bonus money on it sent to my parent's house. 🤷♀️ maddamleblanc

I was a grill cook for a steakhouse. I had probably 20-30 different cuts of meat going on the grill and the shift supervisor asked me to go out and mop the buffet area because someone spilled something. I told her that should probably be a task better suited for the buffet workers since I have to focus on the meat on the grill.

She told me "the meat is not the priority right now! customer safety is!" to which I replied "so you don't care at all about all these customer entrees that are cooking right now?" when she said no, I said "cool, so it looks like you don't need me anymore," took off my apron, and went home leaving no one to work in the kitchen that night.

The manager called me the next day to get my side of the story, asked me to come back (which I declined), and ended up firing the shift supervisor over the crap show. HotsauceMcGuyver

I worked in a really bad grocery store, in a deli with only 4 people for the entire day every week. I went in one day, got berated for how I closed the deli and how everything was a mess the night before, being interrupted and condescendingly mocked everytime I tried to tell her that I DIDN'T WORK LAST NIGHT. Eventually she said just do a better job tonight, and I said "I didn't work last night, it was *name* but BYE!"

A few weeks later they went bankrupt and everyone lost their jobs anyway, obviously it wasn't because of me but I didn't care, just a means to an end while I went to college. DWALLA44

Only job I've ever quit in the heat of the moment was when I was the griller at Sonic. I was 16 and failing most of my classes in high school. I was on day 19 with no days off and the new schedule for the next two weeks was posted and I didn't have a day off scheduled. I took my lunch break and never came back.

The district manager called me a few hours later and said that that was very unprofessional of me. I replied saying that it was unprofessional of management to have a high school student as the only person to work the grill. I worked selling cell phones. I would have customers come in and toss their phones on my desk and tell me to fix it without even looking me in the face. We would have two people on registers dealing with customers that would start a line to form up and then get berated for taking too long to resolve a problem.

We would have to sell a new service to at least one customer a day to meet quota and the entire store would get reprimanded for failing to push something on a customer that the customer didn't want, the best part about this is that if we managed to get the customer to add a new service they had 60 days to return and if they did then it would come out of our pay checks.

One guy got fired for not asking for the exact day that his son was being born off because he put in the wrong dates for his PTO. like babies are born on the exact day doctors estimate. Days off had to be asked for 3 weeks in advance.

One day I had enough after a customer called me stupid for not remembering his phone number out of the hundreds I would deal with every day. I scheduled him and another 20 people to come in for tech service on the same day in the same 2 hour block without telling anyone about it, Friday afternoon just before closing time.

I no called and no showed that day and sent an email telling them to leave me alone. Looking back, it was a stupid and immature stunt on my part. My coworkers didn't do anything wrong but they also didn't do anything to help. If I could do things differently I would. That was about 10 years ago. We had 137 showers to install in wine country resort and only had about two months to do it. Working at KFC when I was younger I just up and left when we were opening, I was New-ish and left alone to handle opening the entire kitchen which takes some time, accepting a delivery, which in the locale in a shopping mall also took some time, cleaning and mopping up, prepping first serves and so on and so on. Basically a job for 4 people had to be done by me alone in the time I was supposed to just get the kitchen going. And I got yelled at and name called for not managing to do it. My first job was at a Ruby Tuesday, 16 years old, wanted to be a chef when I grew up. Place made me hate cooking as a job, was lied to about raises/pay, given closing shifts while still in high school. Left it after two years mid shift.

Fast forward a few years. Get a job at a new Buffalo Wild Wings... Same location (RT had closed down) SAME MANAGERS. I figure it's been years, stuff shoulda changed. Nope, liars and d-bags. What's worse, since it was the newest location, a lot was expected of management which in turn was put on us. Every night after closing we had to go through a 100+ sheet of details... Staying there a couple hours past close most of which was just waiting around to be checked out.

Cooks were dropping like flies, but they knew it would happen, what started as mandatory part time became full time for everyone. So I waited. Another cook who closed every night went back to his union job, and suddenly dropped to two days availability. I had already spoken up about the list, being lied to about pay (they slapped me in the face with 50 cent raise) so I'd had enough.

Come the week the other guy was dropping hours. I came in for my shift, worked my tail off, and closed like normal. I feel kinda bad cause the manager there was and still is a decent guy had to deal with it. But come time for the list, "hey I'm done," " you still gotta be checked out," "no like I'm done, good luck covering 60+ hrs of closing shifts." TalkoSkeva

Maybe not exactly the point of the question but when I worked at this place for a year they never gave me a uniform, everybody else had one but me, I don't know why but it seems like they didn't want to waste their money on me or something, people who literally had the same charge as me and had gotten hired after me got a uniform immediately. After a year they finally spent money on me and gave me my uniform and I quit the next day. I could tell they were more upset because of the uniform situation than me quitting. It was kinda funny.

Btw I did not quit because of the uniform situation, it was for multiple reasons, the timing just coincided. forestkvlt

I got hired at this salon when I was an apprentice hairstylist near Christmas time. The owner was a total scam artist. She only wanted to pay me to assist her senior hairstylist when she came in. The problem was the senior hairstylist only came in for maybe 4 hours per day and she would make me go in WAY before she arrived and work on clients which she said was for "practice." One week i worked there for a total of 45 hours, and when I opened my pay check i was shocked to see she only paid me $70.

On top of that she dared to yell at me when I said I had plans since at the last minute on a Saturday she told me i was coming in the following day, a Sunday, which typically was the only day of the week they were closed. I just ghosted her and never showed up for work after that and she kept calling and texting non stop since I screwed her over because she had all of these people booked in to get their hair done for the week leading up to Christmas and New Years lmao.

I also reported her to the labor board where she lied and said I was an Independent Contractor and they made her pay me for all of the wages she scammed me out of. ChicorNothing

I was rather unsuccessfully working in high pressure sales at the time, and due to my low performance I was forcefully volunteered to take all the shifts no one wanted. There was a big game going on one weekend, and everyone on my team used a vacation day to attend. Someone still had to be there, so it was up to me to sit in the office all day when we were unofficially closed.

My manager and I got into it the day before the game because I had forgotten the name of my last clients dead dog, he let me have it and basically told me he would leave me out to dry until company policy allowed him to fire me. Told him to go screw himself and handed him my name tag and equipment. It was such short notice he couldn't get a replacement for me, had to sit there all day himself. I worked at a fast food restaurant for 5 years. My cousin was the manager and for some reason she thought it was funny to comment on my weight every day. When I'd go on break and order my food she would make comments like "omg you're going to eat all of that."

She wasn't skinny either so she had no room to talk. Anyway one day I was assigned to make the fry sauce in these huge buckets. It was my first time so obviously I wasn't gonna be as fast as the other girls who had been doing it for a few years.

She said that my weight was the reason I was so slow, I just remember kicking one of the buckets towards her and saying "you do it then." The bucket tipped over so she had mayo all over her shoes. I didn't mean for it to tip over, but i'm glad it did. I just walked out and never went back. blmo
