Growing old is just a part of life, but we could all do without the sudden reminders that were doing it too.
Formerly Overweight Teen Decided To Walk To School Every Day To Lose Weight—Now He's Down 115 lbs
With a little determination, anything is possible.
Case in point?
18 year old Michael Watson had struggled with his weight most of his life.
He was teased by other kids and overall just didn't feel like himself. At 300 pounds, he was ready to make a big change.
How?
Simply by walking.
The Canton, Ohio teen made the effort to, instead of taking the bus, walk to and from school every day, rain or shine.
Watson told ABC News:
"When I looked in the mirror I was really ready to get it done and thought, 'I can't just fail anymore on my diet.' I need to actually do this."
Now, he's down 115 pounds.
It wasn't just the walking that helped him lose so much weight. He also changed his diet, cutting down on fast food and learning to count calories.
This was no easy feat, seeing as Watson worked at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken.
"It was extremely hard, especially at first. What motivated me was stepping on the scale. I'd see that I was 290 [pounds] and say, 'Let's get to 280, come on Michael, you got this'.
Regular working out was also a big factor in Watson's weight loss. In his free time, he would lift weights in his garage, which he turned into a makeshift gym.
His alma mater, McKinley Senior High School, showed their pride for Michael in a recent Facebook post.
McKinley Family Support Specialist Terrance Jones nominated Watson for the "Senior Limelight" recognition, after being inspired by the teen's story.
Good Morning America picked it up from there and did a feature on Watson. They also shared video of the story on their YouTube channel.

"His story stuck with me," Jones said to ABC News.
"Michael is a young man who aspired to be able to be a better person for himself. We're not talking about athletic accomplishments or academic accomplishments, this is a personal development success. We need to pay more attention to personal development successes with students."

Watson has already made plans for after graduation, and hopes to get a full-time job when he gets out of high school.
His goal? The food industry.
Taking culinary classes and making healthier food choices sparked a love of cooking. He hopes to possibly pursue it as an adult.
"I lost a lot of my insecurities when I lost all that weight."
Watson added:
"You work for it and you get it, so it feels amazing for sure."
You go, Michael!
New Study Tackles The Relationship Between Exercise, Wealth, And Happiness—With Some Interesting Results
In a recent study published in The Lancet, researchers from Yale and Oxford Universities sought to study the link between exercise and mental health.
Their findings seemed to support anecdotal evidence that exercise improves mood.
The study analyzed data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System surveys of 1,237,194 people from the United States.
Researchers were comparing the number of self-reported bad mental health days between those who did exercise and those who didn't.
Groups were divided in such a way as to balance the number of participants who fell into specific categories such as:
age, race, gender, BMI, marital status, income, education, self-reported physical health and previous depression diagnosis.
The study also differentiated between type and frequency of exercise, as well as duration and intensity.
The study found that those who exercised regularly had over 43% less bad mental health days than those who did not (but were otherwise of similar socioeconomic status and physical characteristics).
All exercise was seen to improve mental health outcomes, but cycling, aerobics, and team sports had the most profound effects.
In the paper's abstract, study authors state that:
"...physical exercise was significantly and meaningfully associated with self-reported mental health burden in the past month."
Whether a person exercised or not had a greater impact than their socioeconomic status:
"Differences as a function of exercise were large relative to other demographic variables such as education and income."
Reactions to the study on Facebook were mixed, but many took the humorous approach.

That isn't to say that exercise will solve all of your problems.
However, it seems it might help make life a little more bearable.
Kate Hudson Belting Out 'Shallow' While Working Out Is Honestly All Of Us
There's nothing like a power ballad to push yourself through a strenuous workout.
Kate Hudson found hers as she mustered every remaining ounce of willpower to push herself past her limits during a Pilates session.
And that girl can belt!
What better song than Lady Gaga's "Shallow" from A Star is Born to wail her way through the private workout session with personal trainer Nicole Stuart?
The Mother's Day actress posted the video of her a cappella war cry and captioned it with "Gearing up for my in-living room Oscar performance."
She tagged the tune's co-writers — Gaga and Mark Ronson — and apologized for screwing up the lyrics.
While Stuart did her best to coach her way through Hudson's intermittent screlting, she finally admitted defeat as Hudson was determined to reach for that top note.
"This is impossible," laughed Stuart.
"I think I hit the note," Hudson said, hoping for a validation.
But Stuart, ever the professional, laid down the law and set her priorities.
"Why don't you hit the proper form, and then hit the note."
As far as we're concerned, she nailed that workout.
Wow, she can really hit those notes. https://t.co/wvzthd2E6A— Metro Entertainment (@Metro Entertainment) 1551020407.0

Many people were surprised by the actress's capabilities — both at Pilates and at singing "Shallow." Fans suggested she should do musicals or be featured in a movie showcasing her hidden talents.
But they may have forgotten Hudson dazzled audiences with her singing and dancing before in the 2009 movie musical Nine directed by Rob Marshall.
She absolutely slayed it!

On October 2, the 39-year-old announced the birth of her first daughter together with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa and named her Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa.
This is Hudson's third child. She is a mom to 7-year-old son Bingham Hawn, with her ex-fiancé, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy; and to 14-year-old son Ryder Russell with her first husband Chris Robinson from the band, The Black Crowes.
Mom is looking great and she sounds amazing. She definitely sent us off the deep end with that impromptu performance.
Little Known Fun Fact: I used to co-own and operate a property preservation and management company. Our job was to take care of houses or condos when the bank had taken ownership of them (foreclosure, owner passed away, etc.) and they were sitting vacant. That meant dealing with a lot of HOA's, particularly since we operated out of a relatively affluent area of South Florida.
You may think you know petty - but trust me there is nothing more petty than a middle aged condo-commando with a golf cart and a clip board. I have literally stood outside in the rain to measure grass to within an eighth of an inch and been told my crew could not come on the property that day because someone's dog had sneezed and they just couldn't handle the stress of opening the gate for us. No, I'm not joking. The dog's name was Robert.
