Food can bring up memories of happy childhoods and important dates to live on in your memory for forever. On the flip side, there's also foods that can take us back to the worst times in our lives making us feel gross, icky, and all around sticky if we even so much as smell it, as evidenced by the stories below.

When I was 15 I had cancer and went through chemo and radiation and only thing I wanted to eat was the horrible cafeteria mashed potatoes. I'm in my 40's now and to this day the smell makes me nauseous, not just normal nauseous but the chemo nausea..I f-cking hate mashed potatoes

When I was young, around 8 or 9, for some reason my parents let me get one for myself when I asked. I managed to eat the whole darn thing and after I was done I leaned back in my seat and proclaimed, "I'm never doing that again." Not only has that become a regular quote with my family, but I have held true to that promise and have never done that again, nor will I ever.
EDIT: I just want to clarify, the molten cake was delicious, it was just the size of it that was too much for one young boy to eat on his own without getting....uncomfortable.

When I was young, my mother went to the store and I said I wanted a cucumber. She found this weird, green bumpy thing, so she decided to get it.
Come lunch, I have it, and I see this weird, slimy inside. I can already tell that it is not a cucumber, and I wouldn't like it.
I eat it, and begin to gag from how rancid it tasted. I revolted back in disgust. There were still around 10 more mouthfuls of this thing.
I didn't want to tell my mother, because she bought it and I didn't want to waste it or seem like a brat, so I kept eating it until my mother found me in the living room gagging on each spoonful (yes, spoonful).
I don't remember where the hell we shopped, or how it was there in the first place. I just remember it was that.
Edit: it wasn't spoiled; it was very green, so it was likely underripe.
Low And Getting Lower
I ordered one a few years ago because I didn't have alot of money and was hungry. I was normally fine with McDonald's even if I knew most of their food is just mashed together privates and loose meat, but this McRib is like the prime example I have when I think of processed meat. Christ it was awful, one bite was all it took to make me throw it away. It honestly baffles me when people say they love the McRibs, and I thought I had low standards.

Gummy worms and stuff, like Haribo. I've heard from a teacher that they put some pig jello (or something like that) in them.

A Food Scarred By A Memory
KitKats, I got sick on a vacation one time when I was around 8 or so.
A KitKat sounded so good. So me being a kid asked my mom for a KitKat. I ate it and later that night I threw up.
After that it not only ruined my appetite for KitKats but also Tortilla chips because I had eaten those also before I threw up. To this day everytime I see one I get a little sick and I fell as if I'm going to vomit.
Not Just The Flavor, But The Color?
Orange. Anything orange flavored.
Too many instances of me having the stomach flu when I was a kid and my parents trying to get me to drink the orange liquid medicine ( Motrin I think).
I would cry and cry because I had thrown it up so many times and it tasted so bad, nor did it make me feel better. Still to this day I HATE orange anything.
Always Try A Little First
I grew up in the south and am a pretty adventurous eater. Went to soul food southern restaurant and decided I was going to order a plate to give it a try. I told the waitress I'd never had it before but wanted to try it. This sweet old black lady looks at me with a skeptical smile and says "honey, why don't I bring you a little to try first". Thank God she did. Tasted straight up like sh-t.
Nothing From Intestines Ever Again

It was bad. I've posted about it here before and the people commenting said it was probably poorly made - ie : the intestines weren't cleaned out. It was from a farm my dad's cousin owned and the whole house and sausage itself tasted like shit smells. I got beat when I didn't want to eat it so I had to. I threw up, got to taste it again. SO..... no. I don't care what anyone says. I'll eat haggis, fine, but no black pudding, blood, or boudin for me again EVER.

Being Good At One Thing Doesn't Mean You'll Be Good At All Things
Growing up we lived with my grandparents. However my grandmother cannot cook. She is a amazing Baker, but just cannot cook. Her idea of mashed potatoes is to this day, half cooked potatoes Literally just mashed. 0 milk butter or seasoning. And only half mashed too. Nasty stuff.
Now when mom makes mashed potatoes their so much better.

SO took me out for a fancy meal when we lived in Japan. They served a lot of delicious small dishes, and the waitress did a good job describing each one. Except for shirako.
