Main characters. We're supposed to sympathize with them, empathize with them, and be willing to root for them in all forms of media. Television, movies, books, it doesn't matter. Great storytelling starts with a protagonist we, the audience, want to follow and observe succeeding. Their successes are our victories, and their failures are our heartaches.

And the, there's those main characters that we all want to see fail.

Reddit user, u/zappy487, asked for any main characters who were undeserving of their happy ending when they asked:

What main character didn't deserve a happy ending?

Jack the Jerkface

Jack from jack and the beanstalk.

Stole the prized possessions of a stranger then killed him

CertifiedBreads

On top of that the wife never even knew what happened to her husband.

Mangohnoo

But It's Chris Pratt....Right?

Chris Pratt's character in Passengers.

He essentially stole the girl's entire future out of selfishness.

morrigans_rook

I saw a video once that said his character would've made an amazing villain if the story was told from Jennifer Lawrence's perspective. It would start with her waking up alone on the ship and coming across some guy who claims that the same thing happened to him and that he doesn't know what happened. Cue the romantic buildup of her getting close to Pratt, who may be charming but might seem slightly off to the audience. Then the ball drops and she finds out that this man who she'd been bonding with the whole time actually trapped her there to suffer with him, stealing her whole life from her.

It'd be pretty impactful and make an iffy sci-fi romance movie into a genuinely good suspense thriller.

Ever since I watched it I couldn't help but wish I could see the movie made like that.

Another Fairy Tale Gone Wrong?

Goldilocks - broke into a house, stole food, broke chairs, messed up beds then ran off.

What a b-tch.

fatboybubba

Does One Good Deed Redeem A Lifetime Of Awful?

Darth Vader - gets to live as a force ghost happily ever after despite causing a galactic holocaust

super713

Yeah, he was a bad dude. Child murderer as well.

However, I think the point of the message is anyone can deserve redemption as opposed to weighing your good actions vs your bad actions.

AllHailSeizure

They weren't children, they were younglings. Younglings are coarse, irritating, and they get everywhere.

People Always Talk About Snape, But Lest We Forget...

The Malfoys, specifically Lucius and Narcissa. They facilitated the return of magic Hitler and he lived in their house. Tons of deaths are on their hands, and lest we forget Lucius tried to kill Ginny with the diary in book two for sh-ts and giggles. They both should have gone to Azkaban for life.

Intestinal-Bookworms

On par with attempting to kill Ginny, in Chamber of Secrets (the film version) Lucius attempts to use the killing curse on Harry, a twelve year old boy, outside of Dumbledore's office. Did he think that was gonna end well for him?

Be It In The Myths Or In The Movie, He Still Sucks

Paris/Orlando Bloom in Troy.

He got his whole family, city, and soldiers on the other side killed because he stole another man's wife. I am a big fan of love, but this guy was the worst.

GoldenGoose92

To be fair, in the original myths of the Trojan war, the humans don't really have a choice in what happens

LiBH4

OG Paris was still a coward and a weak hearted fool.

poohster33

Who's A Good Kitty?

Jerry from Tom and Jerry.

That mouse was literally torturing an innocent cat because he felt entitled to food he didn't own.

Tom was just doing his job and protecting the food and property of his owner who happened to be a large black woman that would regularly beat the sh-t out of Tom because of the crap Jerry pulled and Tom got blamed for.

roycho87

Man, kid me realized that the first time I watched an episode where Jerry just straight up antagonizes Tom.

Like, not stealing food, or something Tom's obligated to react to, there are episodes where Jerry just pulls an Itchy/Scratchy, walks out of his hole and drops something on a sleeping Tom.

B-tch a-- mouse.

Raise Your Hand If You Found This Strange As A Child!

Grandpa Joe. F-ck that guy.

mindif

"Charlie I'm sick and stuck in this bed"

"Hey I found this golden ticket"

"Oh I'm totally fine! Let me dance and sing with you! Also doyouneedachaperonebecauseiwilltakethatrolehappily"

Something More Recent, But No Less Viable. (SPOILER ALERT)

Sierra Burgess from "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser" , a recent teen rom-com on Netflix. spoilers

We are supposed to root for her because she's the poor girl that's a little on the frumpy side but has a great personality deep down!.....BUT she is an absolute sh-t bag the entire movie!

She catfishes this poor dude who thinks he's sharing these deep special moments with Veronica (the hot cheerleader who experiences positive character growth throughout the movie, if anything she deserved the hot guy).

She pretends to be deaf when she has a random encounter with the hot dude so he won't recognize her voice. Horrible.

She embarrasses the sh-t out of Veronica in front of the whole football game just because she saw the hot guy kiss Veronica which is the girl he f-cking thought he was dating so of course he would kiss her!

and don't even get me started on the scene where hot guy is forced to kiss Sierra when he thinks its Veronica he is kissing. Disgusting.

Absolutely none of this sh-t would fly if it was a dude pulling all of these stunts, no matter how many insecurities he had.

And yet somehow she gets the guy at the end??? Does he have no self-respect???

Edit: I did not see Revenge of the Nerds

koatiz

Ha, came here to write this. Catfishing is romantic now? K. TBH, the whole movie felt off.

peachtea18

And All That Jazz...

Basically the entire cast of Chicago (minus Amos Hart (Roxie's husband) and the Hungarian prisoner (Uh uh, not guilty)

F-ck everyone else.

Every bad person gets a good ending, every good person gets a bad ending.

That's showbiz, kid.

Have you ever been reading a book, watching a movie, or even sitting down for a fantastical cartoon and began to salivate when the characters dig into some doozy of a made up food?

You're not alone.

Food is apparently fertile ground for creativity. Authors, movie directors, and animators all can't help but put a little extra time and effort into the process of making characters' tasty delights mouthwatering even for audiences on the other side of the screen.

Read on for a perfect mixture of nostalgia and hunger.

AllWhammyNoMorals asked, "What's a fictional food you've always wanted to try?"

Some people were all about the magical foods eaten in the magical places. They couldn't help but wish they could bite into something with fantastical properties and unearthly deliciousness.

Nutritious

"Enchanted golden apple" -- DabbingIsSo2015

"The Minecraft eating sounds make me hungry" -- FishingHobo

"Gotta love that health regeneration" -- r2celjazz

"Pretty sure those are based off the golden apples that grant immortality. Norse mythology I think?" -- Raven_of_Blades

Take Your Pick

"Nearly any food from Charlie and the Chocolate factory" -- CrimsonFox100

"Came here to say snozzberries!" -- Utah_Writer

"Everlasting Gobstoppers #1, but also when they're free to roam near the chocolate river and the entire environment is edible." -- devo9er

Peak Efficiency

"Lembas" -- Roxwords

"The one that fills you with just a bite? My fat a** would be making sandwiches with two lembas breads and putting bacon, avocado and cheese inside. Then probably go for some dessert afterwards. No wonder why those elves are all skinny, eating just one measly bite of this stuff." -- sushister

Some people got stuck on the foods they saw in the cartoons they watched growing up. The vibrant colors, the artistic sounds, and the exaggerated movements all come together to form some good-looking fake grub.

The One and Only

"Krabby patty 🍔" -- Cat_xox

"And a kelp shake" -- titsclitsntennerbits

"As a kid I always pretended burgers from McDonalds were Krabby Patties, heck from time to time I still do for the nostalgia of it all. Many of my friends did the same thing." -- Thisissuchadragtodo

Cheeeeeeeeese

"The pizza from an extremely goofy movie. The stringy cheese just looked magical lol" -- ES_Verified

"The pizza in the old TMNT cartoon as well." -- gate_of_steiner85

"Only bested by the pizza from All Dogs Go to Heaven." -- Purdaddy

Get a Big Old Chunk

"Those giant turkey drumsticks in old cartoons that characters would tear huge chunks out of. Those things looked amazing, turkey drumsticks in real life suck and are annoying to eat."

-- Ozwaldo

Slurp, Slurp, Slurp

"Every bowl of ramen on any anime, ever." -- Cat_xox

"Studio Ghibli eggs and bacon" -- DrManhattan_DDM

"Honestly, any food in anime. I swear to god half the budget no matter what the studio goes into making the food look absolutely delicious." -- Viridun

Finally, some highlighted the things that aren't quite so far-fetched, but still far enough away that it's nothing we'll be eating anytime soon.

That tease can be enough to make your mouth water.

What's In It??

"Butter beer" -- Damn_Dog_Inappropes

"came here to say this. i was pretty disappointed with the universal studio version which was over the top sweet. it was more of a butterscotch root beer. i imagine butter beer to be something more like butter and beer, which wouldn't be crazy sweet, but would have a very deep rich flavor" -- crazyskiingsloth

Slice of the Future

"The microwave pizzas in back to the future two" -- biggiemick91

"I've been fascinated with those for years! They just look so good!" -- skoros

As Sweet As They Had

"The Turkish Delight from Lion Witch & Wardrobe. The real ones I had weren't bad but nothing special." -- spoon_shaped_spoon

"Came here to say this. I know it's a real thing, but I always imagined that it must have been amazing to betray your siblings over." -- la_yes

"You're used to freely available too sweet sweets. For a WW2 era schoolkid, it would have represented all the sweets for an entire year." -- ResponsibleLimeade

Here's hoping you made it through the list without going into kitchen for some snack you didn't actually need.

When a movie rakes in a ton of cash at the box office, the studio that made it has only one thing on its mind: "How do we keep shaking this money tree?"

Unfortunately, that means they make sequels, sometimes sequels on sequels on sequels.

Oftentimes I like to do my best Ghostface impression and aggressively ask people what their favorite scary movies are. Because I personally have a lot! At the same time, I'm also terrified that at any point, I could end up getting my head punched off by Jason Vorhees (Part 8 of the series--best one IMO).

I hate hypocrites. They are the bane of my existence. All you have to do is stand behind your words. How hard is that? You said them. I especially get peeved when people bloviate on a topic and condemn and holler but then when it comes to them doing it... silence.

Redditor u/ErrForceOnes wanted to know about the moments people chose to curiously "pay no mind" by asking... What is a GIANT hypocrisy that no one seems to mind?
