People Divulge Which Harmful Things Are Still Being Taught To Children Today

There is an ongoing concern that politicians are becoming too involved in what can and cannot be taught in classrooms.
Indeed, even with the school year in full swing, too many Florida public schools continue to find themselves insufficiently staffed with teachers, several of who resigned out of protest, following the controversial "don't say gay" bill, or being told they could not display historical Black figures on their bulletin boards.
It is in the single digits when children are at their most impressionable, when they begin to learn what's right and what's wrong, as well as how to treat others with kindness and compassion.
Making the dangerous information, or misinformation, or lack thereof which they are taught in schools and elsewhere all the more problematic, to the point of dangerous.
A recent Redditor was curious to hear some of the most harmful lessons children continue to be taught today, leading them to ask:
"What harmful things are being taught to children?"
Such Behavior Should Never Be Tolerated
"'Ignore bullies and they'll leave you alone'."
"When you do that, one of two things are likely to happen."
"Either they'll mess with you more, or they'll move to someone else and bully them."
"If you stand up to bullies, they back down."
"The earlier in life you put these people in their place, the less likely they'll develop their bad behavior as a lifelong practice."- EGoldenRule
"'If he's mean to you he likes you'."
"It just teaches little girls, mostly girls, to expect violence from people who love them."- mbar2004

Grown Ups Can Definitely Be Wrong...

... And Being Wrong Is OK!
"Being wrong is bad."

There Is Always Someone Willing To Listen
"Nobody cares about children’s/teens issues."
“'Well it’s only going to get worse from here'."
“'You think school is hard? Have you ever paid a f*cking bill'.”
“'You’re just a kid you can’t feel this way'."
"It breeds an emotional disconnect from parents and their kids."
"And makes kids feel alone in their emotional struggles, that nobody cares because they’re not adults and they don’t have 'Adult Problems'."- Fantalitymlp
Punished For Going The Extra Mile
"There was this one time my sister’s Spanish teacher told her off for using vocabulary outside the sheet she’d been given for homework."
"Their task was to write a short essay introducing themselves in Spanish and use some simple adjectives."
"She asked me for help and since I’m quite a bit older than her and know a decent amount of Spanish, I have her a few interesting adjectives and verbs to use instead of dumb stuff like 'nice' and 'kind' or whatever."
"She comes back after school close to tears and tells me she got scolded for using vocab that wasn’t on the sheet."
"Smh teachers are supposed to encourage learning, not hinder it, right?"
"Just to clarify, I wasn’t helping my sister cheat."
"I just gave her a couple of more interesting words than bland ones like 'nice' and 'fun' you get me?"
"If not, that’s cool too lmao."- mangaka-chan

The Truth About Sex
"Children do learn about sex at a young age, it just isn’t usually in a productive way."
"I know I did."
"My own experience, questions like this are why I believe in being infinitely clear with my kids."
”'You are going to hear total crap from other kids'."
"'If you hear something you don’t understand, come talk to me'."
"'You can ask me anything and expect a decent answer'.”
"And I would give examples of the total crap I had heard as a kid, most of which would result in pregnancy."
"Son, age 6, Daughter, age 7, riding home from school."
"Daughter says 'tiffany said she had sex with my brother'.”
"Which left me a grand total of 3 minutes to gather my wits before we got home."
"'OK, do you guys know what sex is?'"
"Blank looks."
"Sex is when you take off all of your clothes and rub privates together."
"You can make babies that way."
"Looks of shock and disgust."
"Do you think your brother had sex with Tiffany?"
"Nooo!"
"I think she was using a really bad way of trying to say she likes him, and maybe she watches the wrong TV shows where if people like each other they always have sex."
"Were my kids really ready for a sex talk? "
"No, not really. "
"They didn’t care."
"Did we really need to have one about then?"
"Yep."

Children are, indeed, our future.
And with that in mind, it is important that teachers, and all of us for that matter, are very mindful of the information we put in their minds.
As they are our only hope for a brighter, better future.
Love it or hate it, it's hard to avoid eating at McDonald's or other fast food chains every now and then.
Those who tend to avoid it also tend to simply not have a taste for the greasy, deep-fried, not particularly healthy items on the menu.
Some even wonder if the greasy, high-calorie food is even less healthy than people think, wondering what exactly goes in the burger patties and the chicken nuggets.
A viral photo of a deep-fried rat from a New York City Popeye's only exacerbated those ever-growing conspiracy theories.
With this in mind, it would be helpful to have some first-hand knowledge from those in the kitchen at McDonald's, Burger King, and the like, to know what is and isn't safe to grab and go.
"McDonald's workers of Reddit, what is the one menu option that you would recommend people never eat and why?"
Less The Menu Than The Location.
"Really depends on store and location."
"In my experience everything is pretty clean compared to other places I've worked."
"And because the food sits in heating trays, even the stale food is relatively safe to eat."
"They are also pretty anal with inventory and food waste."
"With the volume they push out weekly, it would be very rare for a store to have expired food."
"There is a comment in here about the grease vats not being changed."
"Maybe it was just my store, but we filtered the grease nightly, and cleaned the vat before every oil change."
"The fry vats got changed the most, due to their overuse."
"We also had constant secret shoppers and annual corporate patrons who would really judge the quality of the food."
"In all honesty, it was one of the hardest jobs I've ever worked."
"I did it all in the 6 years I was there."
"Cashier, drive thru, dishes, back end, maintenance, inventory, overnights, management."
"Pretty much every job they had, I spent time in."
"Other than the miserable treatment the employees get from the customer and corporate, the overall business and restaurant side of it is impressively streamlined."
"They have quantified almost everything."
"Maybe the only thing I'd stay away from is the birthday cake."
"I don't even know if you can still buy them, but they would be like the only item in the freezer year round until some unfortunate soul bought one."- WalterPecky
"I worked at a burger King for a week, couldn't stand all day plus the sounds caused constant migraines."
"It was clean as you'd expect it needed to be."
"Made me feel better about eating fast food actually."
"They had a simple rule, if you wouldn't eat it or feed it to your mother then don't serve it."
"Well that plus all the other rules."- modsarefascists42
Be Selective When It Comes To Egg...
"Any of the eggs.'
'There are 2 different ones."
"When they make the scrambled they don't even cook the top of them."
"The round egg sometimes has eggs shells in them, and the folded eggs are like fake frozen squares lol."
"The only real egg is the round egg."
"And never eat the fish sandwich at night time, or the fries b4 the places closes they are not fresh and fryers are already shut off, so it just sits until someone orders it."- Bloomoon-2232
Who Cares!
"You know, no matter how many times I see something like this, it will never, ever make me stop eating fast food."- Artemis_CrabLady69
When In Doubt Stay On Land...

"Only thing I have to say is that tuna and seafood packaged used to have a label on it that said that it didn't contain dolphin or turtles in the meat, then that label suddenly disappeared in 2012."- UnitedTrout
Just When You Think You've Picked The Healthy Option!
"I worked at McDonald's this past summer, and I learned a LOT."
"My store hadn't served them since pre-COVID, but I would stray away from the salads."
"They actually often tend to have more calories than the burgers."
"Also, I wouldn't say not to eat them, but I would still be weary about the fries."
"In the two months I worked there, I think the fry oil was only changed once."- inreallife12001
"Worked at Dairy Queen for 4 years.'
"Do not order the salad, ever.'
"No one ever orders them, because it’s DQ, so when you do, it’s probably 2-3 days old."- naganol32
Literally, Everything!
"Not a single thing off the entire menu."
"Not because of how it's prepared or sits until it's served, but because I've read the nutrition facts of most of it in paperwork and boxes, bags and things like that."
"I worked at McDs in Canton, OH on Cleveland ave."
"Pretty well-maintained, clean place staffed by competent people, on 3rd shift, anyway, but you cant get away from whats in the food no matter how its cooked or handled."
"But I will say, based on what I saw, if you're intolerant of too much sodium for any reason, STAY AWAY from the fries specifically, and asking for unsalted doesn't make a difference."
"I don't remember a number, but thats always stuck out in my mind as being crazy high whenever their nasty food comes up in conversation."- seventytwosuccubi
We must remember, should we find ourselves eating at a fast food chain or a five star restaurant, health inspectors check them regularly.
Suggesting that everything served was at the very least cooked in a sanitary environment.
What exactly was being cooked, however, might remain a mystery...
Who hasn't faked an illness at least once in their life, to get out of going to a work, school or a party or gathering you just really didn't want to go to?
In such cases, a simple call or message saying you're sick will often suffice.
Other times, a doctor's note might be necessary to prove that you are in fact sick.
While needing medical proof of illness is enough for some people to wave the white flag, others are a bit more determined, and will give the performance of their lives to try to convince a doctor they are ailing.
Unfortunately for them, most doctors can detect a fraudulent invalid before even inserting a thermometer.
"Doctors of Reddit, what are the dead giveaway signs that someone is faking?"
Believe Them First
"Brief note foe all the student doctors out there."
"People can pass stroke field tests and still be having a stroke."

"Except I couldn't stop vomiting."
"Good times."

"I went to emergency once with intense chest pain."
"The young (new) doctor I saw first listen to my chest and immediately concluded I had pericarditis but the supervising doctor decided I was faking it for drugs for some reason."
"The next morning I woke up to a psychologist in my room asking all sorts of random sh*t when an orderly interrupted because the ultrasound guy was in and wanted to see me first thing."
"I think after talking to the first doc I saw."
"Turns out I had pericarditis and myocarditis and the dude wheeled me out himself and told them to order an ambulance to take me to a hospital with a cardiac clinic."- freeLightbulbs
Premature Reactions...
"I'm a nurse on a floor that deals with a lot of chronic and acute pain patients."
"Most recent instance was this lady from a few weeks ago that was apparently splitting the Oxycodone we were giving her in half in her mouth and then when the nurse's backs were turned, she would stuff it in a pill jar."
"A night nurse caught her in the act and all of her sh*t had to be searched."
"We found 20 half tablets of Oxycodone she had been stashing."
"She told us that she was 'saving them for her family in case they need them because it's just so hard to get an Oxycodone prescription these days'."
"I had her a few days after that, and she was having some abdominal pain ."
"STAT x-ray showed only gas."
"She just really needed to fart."
"But she was screaming, claiming it was a 10, and making a huge f*cking scene."
"She DEMANDED Dilaudid through her IV, and she wanted it to be pushed fast."
"Huge red flag right there."
"She wanted the high, not the relief."
"Doc straight up said he wouldn't give her Dilaudid because she was already on so many opiates."
"She then demanded Lorazepam, still through her IV of course."
"Doc was like fine whatever, just one time and only a low end dose."
"I was flushing her IV with normal saline first, to make sure her IV was patent, and she leans back and is like 'OOOOoooo that's so much better already'."
"Hadn't even given her the Lorazepam yet, smdh."- strawberrytaint
Desperate Ways To Avoid Change...
"Obligatory not a doctor, but I got a call from my son's school nurse when he was in 2nd grade, and the conversation went like this:"
"Nurse sounding upbeat & cheerful says, 'your son wants to tell you his terrible news'."
"Son gets on the phone, says 'Hi mom, I cut my finger off'."
"I ask him, 'Where is your finger now?'"
"Son: 'I put it back on'."
"I said, 'Can I talk to the nurse?'"
"Nurse gets on the phone again, says, 'Sounds serious, right?'"
"I asked, 'does he have a substitute teacher today?'"
"Ahhhhh... yes."
"I told the nurse to let him know I will take him to the hospital for a shot for his finger, to which he says 'I think it's OK. I glued it on really good'."
"Nurse kept him in the office for a bit to talk about scary changes in the classroom."- cat9tail
Crying Wolf Ruins It For Everyone
"I don’t know why anyone would want to fake anything medical."
"Unconsciousness in particular."
"I got a compound fracture recently and called 911 on myself and was put on hold."
"Fun stuff."
"But got through and asked them to send help."
"Operator was a badass and kept asking me questions to keep me conscious."
"The ambulance folks arrive, casually got out of the ambulance, walk up to me and then saw the bone sticking out of my body, and said, quote, 'Oh! You’re actually hurt!'"
"YES! Did you think I called 911 because I spilled some lemonade?"
"Then it occurred to me that most of their calls must be horsesh*t."
"But to cause me even more confusion, I received close to a $2000 bill for the privilege of actual help and the ride to the hospital."
"That ludicrous bill is no fault of the EMS.
"I’m very much appreciative of their existence and they don’t get nearly enough credit, but the best part of receiving that bill?"
"The ambulance ride was roughly $1850."
"The fentanyl they gave me was $2.15."- KedaZ1
Can You Repeat That?
"My sister is a pediatric audiologist and this is my favorite story of hers."
"Apparently, sometime in elementary school, usually the early grades, a ton of kids like to fake hearing loss."
"Like not just 'oh, I can’t hear the teacher'.”
"Full on, want to get hearing aids, etc."
"Anyway, she explained to me that based on the way she plays the tones, you can usually tell if someone is faking."
"Especially when they just pretend they can’t hear anything.'
"But it’s not 100%, obviously, because hearing loss patterns can be really weird."
"However, she’s caught a number of kids simply by saying, 'okay, so I’m going to play [a random number] of tones and they’ll go in both ears'."
"I want you to say ‘yes’ if you hear it and ‘no’ if you don’t'.”- rbickfor1988
People will likely continue to fake illness in order to get out of something till the end of time.
And power to anyone who can successfully dupe their doctor.
Though, there's anyone one should always be in a trusting, honest relationship with, it's the person in charge of making sure you're healthy.
Something to consider.
This past June, America's eyes widened in disbelief when the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, the landmark decision which gave women the legal right to an abortion.
Members of all political parties were astonished that the Court put mandates on women and their bodies, while certain states swiftly implemented abortion bans.
A definite low point for the United States and the U.S. government.
But was it the lowest point?
Hard as it may be to imagine, the overturning of Roe V. Wade was only one in a long list of shocking mandates and cover-ups and actions the US government was responsible for.
Some have been long forgotten, others which certain elected officials and civil servants are hoping people will forget.
'What’s the most f**ked up thing the US government has done?"

Parents Explain How They Really Decide Whether They Like Their Kid's Significant Other Or Not
There is little more nerve wracking than the first time someone introduces their partner to their parents.
For everyone involved.
Both halves of the couple worry that the parents will judge their every move, disapprove of the partner's choice of profession, or decide that they aren't good enough for their son or daughter.
Making both the child and significant other wish more than anything that they knew what was going through the heads of the parents.
"Parents of reddit: How do you feel when your kid brings back a girlfriend/boyfriend? How do you decide whether you like them or not?"
If They're Happy, I'm Happy...
"It's not up to me to like them, it's up to her. If she does, then I do."
"I care that my daughter is, safe, happy, motivated, handling her own business."

It Can Be Just As Nerve Wracking For Them.

"She’s 17."
"He’s 18."
"I must admit I was a bit nervous and I remember very well being 18 and what I was thinking/wanting, but had a word with myself to be welcoming and warm and to treat him as an equal, my daughter's friend, and therefore my friend."
"Anyway, he’s a nice young man so it’s all good."

"Now he comes over and hangs out with them without an ounce of formality."
"They all have little inside jokes with him, my siblings included."
"My parents went car shopping and I didn't get to go so my dad asked if the boyfriend and I would go take a look at the car one day after work."

It's ingrained in parent's DNA to worry about their children.
And all parents have an idea of how they want their children's lives to turn out.
Hence their immediate trepidation when they bring their first significant other home.
Of course, their trepidation doesn't always come from a place of judgment, but rather a place of sadness.
As the first partner is a bittersweet reminder that their children aren't children anymore.
