People Explain Which Common Sayings They Completely Disagree With

Not every proverb is accurate for every person.

It's a saying, yes, because it's common enough that it seems to help some folks, but it's not a one-size-fits-all.

Also, some sayings are maladapted and are used to the convenience of a select few.

u/ZenSniper5Ray asked:

Which saying do you disagree with?

Here were some of those answers.

Dear Becky

"If you aren't with me, you are against me."

No, Becky; I just don't want to get caught up in your dumb facebook drama where you force people to "take sides".

Walk One Mile

"There's no such thing as a stupid question." Clearly those people never worked in retail or any other customer service job.

LaLaLaLateBar

Case in point today...I work on the ferries which carries vehicles, I was on the vehicle deck where the foot passengers and car passengers are loading and I was guiding passengers up the stairs to the passenger lounges when a lady walked past me, then past the stairs, and straight onto the pedestrian passenger gangway which leads to the Picton terminal...I had to run after her and asked where she was going and she said "Ummm the seating lounge???" In a rude and offended voice. I had to explain to her she wasn't on the ship anymore while pointing to a sign saying "Welcome To The South Island!" She didn't understand despite the sign and the gangway window view of the ship itself...

A Healthy Alternative

"Never go to sleep angry/fighting." Terrible advice. Sleep helps clear our heads. 98% of the time I wake up and think "why was I even mad?"

theBrittaofthegroup

That's so true. It gives me a fresh and more rationalised perspective.

Sometimes I Just Don't Wanna Share My Business, Barbara

"If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide." - Usually said to enforce some new way of doing things or a test upon people.

Bullshit. It's a saying for power-trippers. Because the real thing is, "Who's in charge of the game and do they like you at the moment?".

So when I hear the saying, "If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide", I usually ask if the person saying it takes a poop with the toilet-door wide open... because there's nothing wrong with going to the toilet.

Ma'am?

"The customer is always right."

No ma'am, I can't compensate you for something you couldn't buy because we were out of it.

Actually had this happen...

Spelling!

I before e, except after c...

Or when sounded as 'a' as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'
Unless the 'c' is part of a 'sh' sound as in 'glacier'
Or it appears in comparatives and superlatives like 'fancier'
And also except when the vowels are sounded as 'e' as in 'seize'
Or 'i' as in 'height'
Or also in '-ing' inflections ending in '-e' as in 'cueing'
Or in compound words as in 'albeit'
Or occasionally in technical words with strong etymological links to their parent languages as in 'cuneiform'
Or in other numerous and random exceptions such as 'science', 'forfeit', and 'weird'.

Hobby Job Job

Do what you love, and you'll never work another day of your life.

I don't care how much you love doing something, at some point, it feels like work.

Lucky In Love

When looking for love suddenly everyone has all this advise, I used to hear, "love comes when you least expect it," a thousand times from people who were lucky in love - actually it's just numbers, the more active you are putting yourself out there the more likely you'll come across someone who you are compatible with.

I understand that it could also mean don't be too desperate, but my general distaste for the saying is that people who happen to be in a decent relationship act like they have all the answers, all smug-like to the single people looking. Love is luck, and real love is rare.

NEVER Forget

"Forgive and forget"

I try to forgive because I think holding onto anger can cause more damage in the long run, but there are a lot of things that people do that you shouldn't forget. It's better to remember when people intend to hurt you to prevent it from happening again.

More Control Than Anything

"Respect your elders." I always hated that one when I was younger. No, I'll respect that older people will most likely have more worldly knowledge than me ,and may offer insight.

Respect does not mean I blindly follow instructions. I sure as hell had met many adults when I was younger that I actively did not listen to because I knew they didn't have my best interests in mind, nor an overall groups'.

People Share The Biggest Red Flags They Noticed In Their Partner

A Reddit user asked: 'What's your biggest red flag in a partner?'

When going on a first date, we are often on the lookout for "red flags", the key indicators that whoever is sitting across from us couldn't possibly be the love of our life.

More often than not, these red flags, be it something they said or did, are often a firm deal breaker in finding a partner.

Sometimes, however, there might be enough to make you overlook the glaring red flag you just had waved in your face.

And much to your surprise, you might find yourself falling head over heels in love with them, in spite of their one, obvious flaw.

Some people absolutely love spicy foods.

Spice is also closely related to culture. Some cuisines are well-known for their spiciness, with many of them from tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Bringing the heat to the heat?

Whereas other cuisines are known for a lack of spice—many being in Europe. Denmark was declared the country which uses the least spices, although a lot of Scandinavia gave them stiff competition.

And the UK?

When we think of children's movies, we may think of harmless fun.

But that doesn't mean there isn't some seriously messed up content in those films.

Back before we became self-conscious adults many of us sang our hearts out. But we weren't all singing the greatest hits of Barnie or Disney.

Probably more than a few of us belted out what we heard on the car radio, home stereo or streaming music services our parents or older siblings listened to.

Which led more than a few of us to expand our vocabulary beyond our years.
