When picking a career, it's a good idea to talk to people who have been in the professions you're considering for quite some time.

My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but I was ambivalent to the idea.

My discussions with veteran doctors convinced me there was no way I wanted to go into medicine.

So what are some other not so great jobs?

Deep down, nearly all parents dream of at least one of their children becoming a doctor, lawyer, or high-earning professional.

This doesn't mean they aren't still proud of their children if they enter a profession that doesn't exactly make them rich but brings them joy and also brings joy and happiness to others.

Even if it doesn't stop others from passing judgment on their career of choice.

In fact, there are some careers that are almost universally viewed as a hindrance, if not a threat, to modern society.

Jobs that might cause harm to the environment, or jobs that barely qualify as jobs, which no one should actually be paid to do.

Everyone agrees that there are far too many professions that do not get the pay and recognition they deserve.

Ironically, many of the people who worked in these professions were deemed "essential workers" during the height of the pandemic, as they were the ones who still had to report to work when everyone else had to work from home.

Even if being "essential" didn't result in higher pay or better benefits for any of them.

Reflecting on this often makes one roll their eyes at how much money people make in jobs that seem anything but "essential."

Professions which some might even argue are preventing the world from becoming a better place.

Or, at the very least, not adding anything all that positive to it.

From the moment they can talk through their teenage years, all children utter the words "I hate you" to one or both of their parents.

While they think they might truly mean it at the time, it takes them virtually no time at all to realize that is far from the truth, as they need their parents more than they can possibly realize.

In truth, seemingly genuine hatred towards people we actually need is something all adults continue to find themselves struggling with.

This time, often with people who work in certain professions, whom they tend to mock or belittle, believing that all their jobs do is make life more difficult for other people.

Only to find themselves requiring their services soon thereafter.
