13-Year-Old Girl Raises Nearly $400k To Help Her Friend Get Life-Saving Cancer Treatment—In Just One Week
A delighted teen celebrated as a fundraising page she set up for life-saving cancer treatment for her best friend smashed its £300,000 (~$390,000) target - in just one week.
Lillie Cotgrove, 13, was "devastated" when her best pal Lily Wythe, 14, was diagnosed four months ago with the deadliest type of childhood cancer.
The survival prognosis for Lily's condition - a high-grade diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) - is just eight to 12 months.

So when Lily's parents found "promising" clinical trials for her cancerous brain tumor in Seattle, Lillie was determined to do what she could to help her friend.
Schoolgirl Lillie squealed with delight as her fundraising page, The One Pound Warriors, reached its £300,000 target - just a week after she created it on Facebook.

The One Pound Warriors - which asks for a voluntary £1 donation from all its members - has received a host of celebrity endorsements including Jonathan Ross, Rachel Riley, and Gemma Collins.
The Facebook page was set up by Lillie and her mum Sarah last Thursday (January 16), and its 134,000 members have helped to raise £230,000 (~$300,000) in just seven days.
This total was added to £78,000 (~$100,000) raised by a separate GoFundMe page, which was set up nine weeks ago in November 2019.
And when Lillie was told that her fundraising page had reached its target, she squealed with excitement, before hugging dad Mark and becoming visibly emotional.

Speaking from her home in Benfleet, Essex, England, Lillie said:
"It's absolutely incredible what's been achieved. I did this because I really wanted to help Lily, and at the start I felt a bit like I couldn't help her."
"But then I set up the Facebook page, and lots of people started helping, and now, we're going to get Lily to the U.S. to get a clinical trial done," she added.
And her proud dad Mark, beaming at his daughter's achievement, said:
"It's just incredible, really. I couldn't be prouder of my daughter.
"All of this was borne out of the helplessness of the situation, and wanting to help her dear friend - and look what's been achieved. She's going to get out there to Seattle. It's amazing."

Lillie also added her thanks to national charity Brain Tumor Research, who have helped the two girls spread the word about The One Pound Warriors.
"Brain Tumor Research has helped us so much," said Lillie.
And Lily's emotional mom Diana Wythe said:
"Lily and I never imagined we would manage to raise the £300,000, or that it would happen so quickly. Lily is blown away by it all."
"We can't believe there are so many people out there who have been touched by Lily, with people giving away precious savings or even their wages and children their pocket money."
"I want people to rest assured that any donations not needed for Lily, will be given to charity. We aren't making any money out of this."
Diana added:
"Lily had a scan on Sunday and we will get the results next week, which can then be sent to Seattle Children's Hospital to find out what the next move is. This has happened so quickly, we haven't even had the chance to get our visas ready, so that needs to happen fast."

Lillie's fundraising efforts for her friend have touched people's hearts around the world, with many members of The One Pound Warriors nominating her for a Pride of Britain Award.
The parents of both teenagers have been overwhelmed by the "phenomenal" response, which has included retweets and messages from British celebrities including Jonathan Ross, Gemma Collins, and Keith Lemon.
Jonathan Ross shared the fundraising page on Saturday to his five million Twitter followers, writing:
"If any of you feel like joining me in chipping in I know it would be appreciated."

And Gemma Collins shared the page on Sunday to her 1.3 million followers, writing:
"Have a read, share and donate if you can."
Hugh Adams, head of stakeholder relations at Brain Tumor Research, said:
"This is the most extraordinary achievement. Huge congratulations to Lillie and everyone who has got involved with The One Pound Warriors."
"Our hearts go out to the family of Lily Wythe as they start preparing for further treatment which they had been told by doctors in the UK wasn't possible. It is just not acceptable that families who have loved ones affected by brain tumors are sent home and told to make memories."
"On behalf of us all at Brain Tumor Research, I would like to wish Lily and her family all the very best," he added.

9-Year-Old Creates GoFundMe To Buy Sleeping Bags For The Homeless—Here's How You Can Help
It began as a single act of kindness but the generosity of a nine-year-old Texas girl quickly inspired others and now the project she started is growing bigger than she could have imagined.
Aisley Bradford is not your typical nine year old. After receiving about $60 as Christmas money, Aisley decided she didn't want to spend it on herself.
Instead, Aisley wanted to buy sleeping bags for the homeless.
"When I walked outside, I felt how cold it was, and I thought of those people that didn't have home or shelter," Aisley told Fox 4 News.
Inspired by Aisley's generosity, several others soon joined in matching her $60.
Money in hand, Aisley headed to Academy Sports + Outdoors to pick up the sleeping bags. When the store employees heard what Aisley was doing, they wanted to help, so they gave Aisley a 20% discount.
With the extra money and the discount, Aisley was able to get a whole lot of sleeping bags.
With a car full of sleeping bags, Aisley then headed to downtown Dallas to hand them out.
"She was excited, she did most of the work with her brother and sisters," Aisley's mother, Christina Bradford told Fox 4. "I think they're all giving kids. And so it just came natural."
Now Aisley's giving nature seems to be inspiring even more people.
So far, Aisley says she's already handed out 30 sleeping bags to the homeless in Dallas, but she doesn't plan on stopping there.
After the success of her first effort, Aisley decided to set up Cared N Covered, a project dedicated to continuing what she started.
Along with a Twitter account, Aisley started a GoFundMe page to keep raising money to buy more sleeping bags.
If you want to help Aisley reach her goal, donations can be made here.
Homeless Man Comes To The Rescue Of NFL Player Stuck In The Snow On His Way To Playoff Game ❤️
The work of a good Samaritan is usually reward enough in itself. However, a homeless man is finding plenty of help in return after he helped an NFL player.
Kansas City Chiefs player, Jeff Allen, was on his way to a game against the Indianapolis Colts. However, the snowfall from that day was more than expected and his car got stuck.
Lucky for him, a man named Dave offered to tow him out with a truck. While he got his name, a glitch with his phone made Allen lose Dave's number.
So he took to Twitter to track down the man to give him free tickets to the game.

However, with a reward like that, it suddenly appears that Dave is a very popular name.

Luckily, Allen was able to sort through it all and track down Dave Cochran.
Update: Despite the recent influx in people changing their name to Dave in the KC area lol, I was actually able to… https://t.co/ybJl0G2sjY— My Name is Jeff (@My Name is Jeff) 1547402978
Dave had people contacting him to let him know he was being searched for. He created a Twitter account just to respond.
The man lives out of his truck with his fiancé and pet dog. A lifelong Chiefs fan, Dave was very grateful for the tickets. However, once it came to light that he was homeless, people were more impressed.
Dave has a bit of a checkered past. While he's excited for the opportunities provided to him, he does have a criminal record.
"I was in prison from 2008 to 2015 with a six-month break in between,"
He told the Kansas City Star.
"People gave me chances. People didn't give up on me."
Dave wants to do better, and is happy to help others in turn.

A local news station took a vested interest in the story. Steven Dial, a reporter for 41 Action News, put out a call for donations to help Dave get back on his feet.
Dial was in contact with Dave's family to ensure the money goes to the right place.

Additionally, a GoFundMe was also started to help Dave out. It has already reached more than its goal in only two days. The funds have been placed in the name of a family member of Dave's.
However, after recent news about a GoFundMe scam, some people were unwilling to donate. Luckily, local businesses have decided to take direct action.
Instead of donating money to the completed fundraiser, people have been offering their services to help.

Dave has taken some up on their offers, especially getting the windows replaced on his truck. That should help a little with keeping warm in the winter.
With all this goodwill coming his way, Dave feels a sense a responsibility.
"I've lost a lot of years. I want a better life for me, my fiancée and my son."
GoFundMe Started For California Man Who Can't Leave Guatemalan Hospital Until He Pays Massive Bill
A California native and high school chemistry teacher, Alex Austin, was visiting Guatemala with friends when he got into an accident. He dove into what turned out to be shallow water and broke his neck.
A local hospital was able to treat him; however, his medical bills have been piling up in the meantime. Now he can't leave until they're paid.
When Austin dove in the water, he broke two vertebrae and pinched his neck. The hospital had to give him a five-hour surgery, installing titanium rods and a mesh cylinder, held together by a palladium plate.
It seems to have gone well, and Alex is recovering. However, the bills keep rising. Austin's friend, Dillon Nicholson, set up a GoFundMe to ask for help with the costs. Austin's insurance hasn't been much help with his injuries in another country, so Nicholson has been asking for money and keeping everyone informed of his progress.
What started at a $20,000 donation goal has been rising with the addition of new bills. They've already raised it to $25,000 and are close to reaching that goal. However, recent updates might increase that number.
Admittedly, the bill seems better than some people's experience in the states.

Nicholson says his friend's biggest worry is the lesson plan for his students.
"After calling his parents, the first thing he wanted to do was make sure his students would have lesson plans to stay active while he's gone."
In the most recent update as of this writing, Austin is close to going home. Nicholson posted an update filled with positive progress and said Alex would be leaving the hospital tomorrow.
However, he also said:
"Thanks [to] you, Alex is coming home. We still have about $10k to raise, and I hope you all can continue to help."
The page shows only about $1,800 needed, so one can imagine a goal increase is coming soon.
You'd think there would be other options.

What Alex needs to fly home in his condition is unknown at this time, but with his progress and help of his friends, this teacher will hopefully get to see his class again.
