Whoopi Goldberg Gets Emotional After Patrick Stewart Invites Her To Join The Cast Of 'Star Trek: Picard'
Trekkies, rejoice! It looks like Guinan will be returning to the Star Trek universe.
The beloved El-Aurian bar hostess played by Whoopi Goldberg was a recurring character who appeared on the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation and the films, Star Trek Generations and Star Trek: Nemesis.
Goldberg can now add Star Trek: Picard, which debuted Thursday on CBS Access, to the list.
Patrick Stewart was a guest on The View on Wednesday and personally invited the show's co-host to join the second season of Picard.
By the look of her face, the actress was beaming up.
The ask occurred when Stewart, who plays the eponymous retired admiral, interrupted co-host Joy Behar to make his surprise announcement.
"I'm here with a formal invitation, and it's for you, Whoopi."
"Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of 'Star Trek: Picard', and all his colleagues, of which I am one, want to invite you into the second season."
The surprised TV personality hugged her future co-star as the studio audience cheered over the exciting news.

Stewart's character, Jean-Luc Picard – captain of the starship USS EnterpriseEnterprise (NCC-1701-D) – has appeared in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and in the feature films Star Trek Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), and Star Trek: Insurrection (1998).
He was last seen in Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002.
When asked how Stewart was able to revisit a character 18 years later, he said:
"It's easy…. Picard has aged 18 years, fictionally, and Patrick Stewart has aged 18 years actually."
"And I don't have to work at it because it's just me, it's who I am now!"
"We have such a team of writers on this show, it's astonishing, and I wanted to show that Picard's world had changed because Patrick's world has certainly changed, and we are no longer now living in the same kind of society we lived in 18 years ago."

Ian McKellen Just 'Proposed' To Patrick Stewart On The Red Carpet, And Then The Two Shared The Most Tender Of Kisses
Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart have been best friends for a long time.
The pair even went to Broadway with a Pinter and a Beckett play just for the fun of it.
And recently they took their friendship to the next level.
On the red carpet for Star Trek: Picard, McKellen approached his friend and was received with a peck on the cheek.
Following that little peck, McKellen immediately got down on one knee and proposed to Stewart.
Sir Patrick immediately accepted Sir Ian's proposal, and then the two shared a full on-the-lips kiss.
Sir Patrick then logged on to share an adorable pic of the two old friends.
Awwwwwww.
Sir Patrick attended the premiere with his wife, Sunny Ozell.
Sir Ian was the officiant of their wedding.
To add to the narrative of the cutest best friends ever, Sir Patrick and Sir Ian also played The Newlywed Game with Buzzfeed in 2014.
Long story short, they've always been an adorable couple.

While it is difficult to point out any significant details for Star Trek fans, Newsweek noted that eagle-eyed fans on a Star Trek subreddit pointed out that the missing rank pips at the collars of some of the costumes indicate that the people in the scene are cadets as opposed to Starfleet veterans.
Fans assumed the series will focus on Picard inspiring a new team of leaders as an instructor at Starfleet Academy.

Stewart finished his TV journey as Picard when Star Trek: The Next Generationwrapped up with the final airing on May 23, 1994.
However, he did make appearances in the feature films, Star Trek Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)—which marked his last turn as the character.
Little did fans know it they would not see the last of Picard.
Stewart is also serving as an executive producer along with Alex Kurtzman, the creator of Star Trek: Discovery. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon will serve as executive producer and writer for the new series.
The show's premise remains unknown, but CNET did confirm Picard will take place in 2399, two decades after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis.
Star Trek: Picard will be available to stream on CBS All Access at the end of the year.
