'The Sandlot' Is Returning In An Unexpected Form With The Original Cast, And We Cannot Wait
It's official: the original cast of The Sandlot are returning for an exciting project that's sure to be a home run for fans of the 1993 coming-of-age movie that became a cult favorite.
Moviegoers fell in love with Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) and his new group of young baseball-playing friends who get into mischief during the summer of 1962 in California's San Fernando Valley.
Although the film spawned two direct-to-video sequels, The Sandlot 2 (2005) and The Sandlot: Heading Home (2007), only James Earl Jones returned to reprise his role in the first sequel as Mr. Mertle who owned "the Beast" – a ginormous English Mastiff that became a hilarious suburban legend.
David Mickey Evans, who co-wrote and directed The Sandlot, revealed to the baseball podcast The Rain Delay that the beloved movie will be adapted for television as a reboot.
"I just sold a Sandlot television show. We're about to get an order for the first two seasons."

Evans didn't reveal which streaming service the show will be available on; however, he did throw us a curve-ball.
"I know who's going to stream it. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out right now."
"I already got all the original cast members back. It takes place in 1984, when they're all, like, 33 years old and they all have children of their own, and that's all I can tell you."
Fans are batting up for the exciting reunion.
