This past week, Kobe Bryant played the final game of his career after twenty years with the LA Lakers. And though he might have been a controversial character, there is no doubt that he will go down in history as one of the best NBA players of all time. Here are 24 little known facts about No. 24.

1/24. Kobe has played all twenty years of his basketball career with the LA Lakers. He is the only NBA player to play 20 seasons with the same team.

2/24. When he first met Michael Jordan, Kobe famously said, "you know I can kick your ass one-on-one."

3/24. Having spent some of his childhood in Italy, Kobe became fluent in Italian.

4/24. Kobe has had a tumultuous relationship with fellow NBA all-star Shaquille ONeal. Despite playing together from 1996-2004 and leading their team to three consecutive championships (2000, 20001, 2002), the two had a big falling out in the early 2000s. Kobe didnt even attend Shaqs wedding.

5/24. Kobe is not only the first player to play 20 seasons with the same franchise. He is the first guard to play 20 consecutive seasons, period.

6/24. Kobe almost made a career in the music industry. In early 2000, he released a single called K.O.B.E. in which he raps about his love for basketball, boats, and broads. Sony was planning on making an entire album, but when the single bombed, Kobes rap career was instantly crushed.

7/24. If he hadnt become a basketball player, Kobe would have become a soccer player. Growing up in Italy, Kobe grew a love for the sport. But when he moved back to the United States, he decided to go into basketball.

8/24. Kobe was the first guard in NBA history to be drafted straight of high school.

9/24. Kobe retired as one of the highest-scoring NBA players of all time, surpassing Michael Jordan himself.

10/24. Despite his rap career failing miserably, Kobe met his wife, Vanessa Laine, during the time he was recording his music. Their tumultuous marriage has been heavily publicized, but they are still together today and have two daughters together, Gianna and Natalia.

11/24. Kobe has won two Olympic gold medals playing for the U.S. national team in 2008 and 2012.

12/24. Originally, Kobe was supposed to play for the Charlotte Hornets. However, the Hornets traded him last minute for Vlade Divac.

13/24. Kobe is not the first professional basketball player of his family. His dad is Joe Jellybean Bryant, a former NBA player who played for the 76ers, the Rockets, and the Clippers. He then moved to Italy to play in the Italian leagues, which is why Kobe spent some of his childhood there.

14/24. Kobe got his middle name, Bean from his fathers athletic nickname, Jellybean.

15/24. Kobe set his point-scoring record in a game against the Toronto Raptors in January of 2006. He scored 81 points. This record had only been surpassed by Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in 1962.

16/24. Kobe finished his career having scored upwards of 32, 683 points, the third highest in NBA history.

17/24. Kobe played in the NBA for twenty years and retired at the age of 37. That means that up until this point, he has spent over half his life as a professional basketball player.

18/24. Kobe is named after Kobe beef, a special cut of steak from Japan. Allegedly his parents were eating at a steakhouse in Philadelphia called Kobe when they got the idea for his name.

19/24. You have to take a lot of shots to be one of the highest-scoring players of all time, which means that Kobe has set the record for the most missed shots, as well.

20/24. Kobes time spent in Italy has made him a dedicated A.C. Milan fan.

21/24. Kobe has not only set a record for scoring points, but also for merchandise sales. On Wednesday, April 13th, the night of the final game of his career, the Staples Centre sold $1.2m dollars worth of Kobe merchandise.
