Children and adolescence are often completely inept and socializing responsibly.
Their hormones are flowing. They're obsessed with status and social hierarchies.
Maybe you remember that age—or maybe you're currently in the throes of it. It felt like doing well socially was a zero-sum game: be cool or be decimated.
Unfortunately, certain traits were rewarded and others were not. For example, it's easy to interpret loud energy as confidence and humor.
But some kids just didn't have loudness in them. They were patient, didn't feel the need to take up the air time.
But in that high school ecosystem, that's no mere attribute. It's grounds for ridicule.
A recent Reddit thread asked for the Mose quite kids' side of that story.

For plenty of people, the reason for their timidity only became clear as they grew up and understood what was motivating it all the while.
The fog clears, and a previously unobserved deriving force becomes obvious.
From Quiet to Manic

Others highlighted an important dynamic.
These Redditors explained that sometimes the alienated kid was originally not very different from anyone else.
But one quirk can snowball.

<p>My MIL tells me that during the days of the USSR there were people who sat at desks at the entrances of subway stations. What A Jerk
<p>My History teacher in 9th grade. 1970's style, grey chest pubes popping out of his shirt with a gold necklace entangled in them. well over the line of obese but still not waddling. This was right after 9/11, so we all had to wear IDs around our necks and he'd always stare at girls' boobs saying he was checking ID. He used to give me detention if I walked in the class when the bell was ringing, but if anyone showed up after me it was fine. <p>I have a short row of eyelashes that grow from the inside of one of my upper lids. I have to pluck them before they get long enough to scratch my eyeball. <p>I have several halo nevi on my back. A halo nevus is a mole that is detected by one's own skin as not cool so the skin proceeds to remove it my eating its melanin. It first creates a white halo around the mole, then grows inwards until it "eats" the mole. When it's done I'm left with a white circle with no melanin in it. </p><p>Usually halo nevi are supposed to re-pigment with time but mine never did so I basically have several coin-sized white spots with zero sun protection. Because of this I was forced to stay away from the sun as much as possible since I was a child. <p>I don't feel much pain. My brain does but I don't register like half of it. Had a kidney stone and it felt like I was constipated. Often times I'm not in pain until I realise I should be if that makes sense?
