People Share The Popular Movies That Actually Have A Terrible Message

I love movies. They have been a mainstay in my life from the beginning like pretty much all of us.

Many movies stay embedded in our minds forever.

We quote them, we discuss them, we rewatch when we can and as we age it's the rewatch that can be troublesome.

Some of the movies we adored are seriously problematic... at best.

RedditorScorpionX-123wanted to chat about the movies that everyone adores, but maybe we need to think twice about hailing.

They asked:

"What movie actually has a terrible message?"

All of those movies about a man coming to save you? Please. he doesn't exist.

The Chase

"Any rom com that says chase the woman & no matter what you'll get them. Only if you chase hard enough."

Paging a Doctor

"Annabelle's Wish has a great message about the spirit of Christmas and it's still one of my favorite Christmas movies, but the kid clearly has severe PTSD from watching his parents die and then almost dying himself in an unrelated event, and the 'evil' aunt wants to adopt him so she can take him to therapy, which his grandfather doesn't believe in."

"Watching as a kid you just want to see the kid stay on the farm and hang out with the animals, but as an adult it's more 'holy crap, this kid needs to see a real doctor'."

NightOnFkMountain

Powers that be...

"喵星人 Meow (2017 Hong Kong film). A child with a disability gets mercilessly bullied by her peers and teachers. At the end the cat uses his magic powers to get rid of her disability. Then everyone likes her and she lives happily ever after."

Some-Basket-4299

"Like Rudolph - taunted and excluded due to a birth defect and only accepted when only he was the one to save them. People always forget the rest of his herd would have happily let him die if not for the need to light the way."

HunterRoze

Poor Greg

"Meet the Parents! Pam is so rude and inconsiderate to Greg and sets him up for failure all weekend! That movie makes me SO angry... lol every 10 minutes I find myself yelling out 'he should dump her!!"

AlienUniversity

"I actually cried when I watched that movie bc Greg tries so hard and everyone is just so mean to him and after a certain point it just didn't seem funny!! And Ben Stiller just seems like such a genuinely nice and goofy person lol."

Otherwise-Rip-6872

I Love Meg

"Not a movie, but that episode of Family Guy where Meg finally calls out her family on their treatment of her, but then takes it all back at the end because singling her out for abuse is what keeps them all together, I guess."

ralo229

Poor Meg.

That show really does have some thematic problems.

New Girl

"Any one of them where the ‘unattractive’ (albeit smart or talented) girl has to change everything about herself to get the popular guy who only sees her for the ‘her’ they created her into."

Lightning McQueen

"Cars 2. You (Tow Mater) can be an absolute idiot and sabotage all the good things I (Lightning McQueen) have going for me on this international vacation I'm paying for, but it's my problem because that's just the way you are. It's my fault because need to accept and be okay with the fact that you are the worst."

mrsbabyllamadrama

I have a dream...

"Any movie where the expert is proven wrong by the young upstart who has a 'vision' and/or 'faith.' It’s pretty much created a culture of people who are proud to be ignorant, because not being educated somehow makes you more down to earth, or better than people who passionately studied their subjects for years."

ActingAspie

Weird

"Top Gun: If a girl rejects you, just have a bar sing to her and then follow her into the bathroom. When she gives in, go to her house late and shower. Just be weird as f**k."

whamburglary

"They wanted to push more romance into the movie and Tom Cruise was like no, this movie needs more bromance. They were going to downplay Goose and he was the one who realized that their relationship was the best part of the movie."

mrjake118

No Girl

"This feels like easy mode, but the 50 Shades trilogy: it's okay if he abuses you, he had a sad past! And he's rich! Giving you nice things = love, right? ...Right??"

PM_ME_BATMAN_PORN

Giphy

50 Shades.

Where do we even begin?

If he was poor, it'd be a Texas Chainsaw sequel.

People Divulge How They Cope With Loneliness
Photo by Anthony Tran on Unsplash

Many people value solitude, and having time to themselves.

For others though, loneliness can be a crippling feeling.

Having no one to talk to or spend time with can get wearying after an extended amount of time.

Something many people know more than ever after the global pandemic hit in spring of 2020.

But while some people simply succumb to being lonely, others will find ways to help them cope with, if not completely forget, being all alone.

Redditor No_Blackberry_6286 was curious to hear the different ways people have of coping with their loneliness, leading them to ask:

In this day and age of advancement, it's crazy how so many things leave our heads scratching.

Like how in 2022 is such and such still around?

Everyone in New York wondered that for the past decade until they took the final payphone.

I always wonder about companies that still make you send a fax.

Y'all have heard of email right?

RedditorPineapple_WarpDrivewanted to compare notes on why we think certain things and parts of life are not yet obsolete this late in the game of time. They asked:

"It’s 2022, what shouldn’t exist now?"

People Share The Questions They're Too Embarrassed To Ask The LGBTQ+ Community
Photo by Sara Rampazzo on Unsplash

It's PRIDE month. It's time to be loud and proud.

Well, every minute of everyday we should be loud and proud.

But this month gives you an extra special buzz.

So in the spirit of learning, we will be taking questions from the class.

I know cisgender straight people still have a lot they don't understand.

What do you need to know?

Redditorhre_nftwanted everyone to feel comfortable enough to be as aloud what they've been waiting to ask a queer person. Safe space for all. They asked:

"What question have you always wanted to ask LGBTQ+ people but didn’t because you don’t want to offend them?"
