People Share The Popular Movies That Actually Have A Terrible Message

I love movies. They have been a mainstay in my life from the beginning like pretty much all of us.

Many movies stay embedded in our minds forever.

We quote them, we discuss them, we rewatch when we can and as we age it's the rewatch that can be troublesome.

Some of the movies we adored are seriously problematic... at best.

RedditorScorpionX-123wanted to chat about the movies that everyone adores, but maybe we need to think twice about hailing.

They asked:

"What movie actually has a terrible message?"

All of those movies about a man coming to save you? Please. he doesn't exist.

The Chase

"Any rom com that says chase the woman & no matter what you'll get them. Only if you chase hard enough."

Paging a Doctor

"Annabelle's Wish has a great message about the spirit of Christmas and it's still one of my favorite Christmas movies, but the kid clearly has severe PTSD from watching his parents die and then almost dying himself in an unrelated event, and the 'evil' aunt wants to adopt him so she can take him to therapy, which his grandfather doesn't believe in."

"Watching as a kid you just want to see the kid stay on the farm and hang out with the animals, but as an adult it's more 'holy crap, this kid needs to see a real doctor'."

NightOnFkMountain

Powers that be...

"喵星人 Meow (2017 Hong Kong film). A child with a disability gets mercilessly bullied by her peers and teachers. At the end the cat uses his magic powers to get rid of her disability. Then everyone likes her and she lives happily ever after."

Some-Basket-4299

"Like Rudolph - taunted and excluded due to a birth defect and only accepted when only he was the one to save them. People always forget the rest of his herd would have happily let him die if not for the need to light the way."

HunterRoze

Poor Greg

"Meet the Parents! Pam is so rude and inconsiderate to Greg and sets him up for failure all weekend! That movie makes me SO angry... lol every 10 minutes I find myself yelling out 'he should dump her!!"

AlienUniversity

"I actually cried when I watched that movie bc Greg tries so hard and everyone is just so mean to him and after a certain point it just didn't seem funny!! And Ben Stiller just seems like such a genuinely nice and goofy person lol."

I Love Meg

"Not a movie, but that episode of Family Guy where Meg finally calls out her family on their treatment of her, but then takes it all back at the end because singling her out for abuse is what keeps them all together, I guess."

Poor Meg.

That show really does have some thematic problems.

New Girl

"Any one of them where the ‘unattractive’ (albeit smart or talented) girl has to change everything about herself to get the popular guy who only sees her for the ‘her’ they created her into."

Lightning McQueen

"Cars 2. You (Tow Mater) can be an absolute idiot and sabotage all the good things I (Lightning McQueen) have going for me on this international vacation I'm paying for, but it's my problem because that's just the way you are. It's my fault because need to accept and be okay with the fact that you are the worst."

mrsbabyllamadrama

I have a dream...

"Any movie where the expert is proven wrong by the young upstart who has a 'vision' and/or 'faith.' It’s pretty much created a culture of people who are proud to be ignorant, because not being educated somehow makes you more down to earth, or better than people who passionately studied their subjects for years."

ActingAspie

Weird

"Top Gun: If a girl rejects you, just have a bar sing to her and then follow her into the bathroom. When she gives in, go to her house late and shower. Just be weird as f**k."

whamburglary

"They wanted to push more romance into the movie and Tom Cruise was like no, this movie needs more bromance. They were going to downplay Goose and he was the one who realized that their relationship was the best part of the movie."

mrjake118

No Girl

"This feels like easy mode, but the 50 Shades trilogy: it's okay if he abuses you, he had a sad past! And he's rich! Giving you nice things = love, right? ...Right??"

PM_ME_BATMAN_PORN

50 Shades.

Where do we even begin?

If he was poor, it'd be a Texas Chainsaw sequel.

Adults Explain Which Things Every Teenager Should Know

We often look back on our teenage years with mixed emotions.

Our final years where we could enjoy our youth, and live largely without responsibility and just enjoy being a child and all that came with it.

Of course, we might also look back on things we did as teenagers which we are less than proud of today.

Or things we wish someone had told us, so that we may have avoided falling into those unhappy situations.

We all pretended to be sick at least once when we were children to get out of going to school to avoid a test, game, or assembly we'd been dreading.

Some people still might not have given up the habit of feigning illness, as a means of avoiding work or other occasions that they are less than eager to attend.

Sometimes, simply telling people that you're "sick" is all the information you need to share to get out of it.

Whether or not more concrete proof is needed, others might go a step further in faking their ailment, be it a cold or fever, and often pull off fairly convincing performances.

Sometimes even fooling a doctor.

Every kid has their own strengths and talents. However, in school, some of us are singled out as being ‘gifted.’

This could mean a variety of things, from getting exceptionally good grades to having a unique way of thinking or understanding topics that aren’t seen in other students.

Often, when a student is labeled “gifted,” it is assumed they will be successful in later life.

However, Reddit has proven that this is not always the case.

Sometimes gifted students are successful but to a normal degree. They have the same careers and achievements as students who weren't labeled gifted. Other times, these students are not successful at all and being labeled “gifted” ended up damaging.

Non-disclosure agreements, or NDAs, are legally binding contracts that establish confidential relationships.

For most people, it’s not a big deal. NDAs are often signed at the start or end of an employment opportunity or during a sale of a product or technology you own. They mainly protect creative, business, or intellectual properties.

However, another function of NDAs is to guarantee silence on more high profile or nefarious events. For example, Stormy Daniels was asked to sign an NDA so that events that transpired between her and former president, Donald Trump, would be kept a secret. In most cases like these, the person who signs the NDA also gets a sum of money for their cooperation.

In these cases, the reason for the NDA is usually wild.
