It's award show season time and everybody has started placing bets. Hollywood is gearing up for it's most favorite time; Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes... Oh myyy! And as much as live viewership has ebbed and criticism has ravaged many of these shows we still love them. We love them mostly because they always provide us with the best of Hollywood crazy. You know you love it.
Redditor u/ody225y wanted us all to discuss some of our favorite, crazy tv moments asking.... What moment at a broadcasted award ceremony like the Oscars, Emmys, etc is the funniest or most memorable?
Go ahead Piano Man....Giphy
At the Grammys, Frank Sinatra won a lifetime achievement award and then he was played off during his speech. This pissed Billy Joel off such that he paused for close to a minute during his performance of "River of Dreams" later on in a show. He just looked at his watch (maybe just a bare wrist?) and said "Valuable ad time just ticking by..." astrakhan42
Thank you Christine Lahti!
Wasn't there a time Robin Williams took to the stage because who ever won was in the bathroom? I want to say a golden globe or something. Maybe Emmy? Irish_Beebe
When Steve Harvey messed up the Ms Universe contest. Marasmous
Smells Like Teen Spirit!
1992 MTV awards, Nirvana on stage, bassist throws his bass way up into the air and it comes back down and smacks him in the head.
David Niven was presenting at the 1974 Oscars when a man streaked across the stage. Niven's response was classic:
"Well, ladies and gentleman, that was almost bound to happen... But Isn't it fascinating, to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get... is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings." AnnOrZ
Who are you?
Few people remember it (aside from sound people) but when Alan Splet (sound designer for Black Stallion) won an Oscar in 1979, he didn't attend the ceremony.
So host Johnny Carson made a running joke out of how Splet was running late and was almost to the venue— a joke Carson kept going all night. It turned a pretty private unknown sound technician into a household name. completelyillogical
John Travolta introducing Idina Menzel as "the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem" is a personal highlight of mine. KPC82
Then the next year she returned the favor calling him Glom Gazingo and he caressed her face for about 30 seconds. I think the 2014 Oscars were pretty memorable. lol. kittycatdude
A start to finish mess!
Is no one going to mention the Oscars that was hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway? Just, the entire thing. usernamesarehard9099
"Everyone is gonna make fun of James Franco for the Oscars, it's obvious. Everyone was saying James was dead up there! But I think that was Anne Hathaway's fault. I mean, f**k her for trying, like, at all! How dare she attempt in some way to entertain the millions of people trying to escape their lives for a few hours. I commend you, James." fzw
One of the most heartwarming was when Marketa Irglova won (with Glen Hansard) for Best Song - "Falling Slowly" from Once - and she got cut off before she could speak. After the commercial break, the host, Jon Stewart, announced that they were going to let her back on to finish her speech. It was so nice that she got her moment! TravelsWithMyself
In the 2005 oscars, Jeremy Irons was presenting the award for live action short when a bang was heard from backstage (someone later said a microphone over a piano wasn't muted before moving the piano). Either way, Irons, without missing a beat, and with his usual dry wit quipped "I hope they missed." I can't seem to find the video but his tone was perfect and had me cracking up. InSearchOfSubstance
