People Share What Immediately Turns Them Off Romantically

It's a first date and the person you're meeting shows up. They're dressed to the 9's and great eye candy. And then they open their mouth, and it all goes south. Even the most physically attractive people can have really ugly qualities, like treating wait staff poorly or having bad hygiene.

Jynn05 asked: What is an immediate turn off for you?

Someone who is only interested in talking about themselves. This goes for all types of relationships. The worst habit these people have is when you're finally getting to speak about an experience you've had and their response to your input is a story about how they've done or experienced something similar.

thomasjohn89

I hate to admit it, but I do this. How do I not do this? What do I say instead? I only know what I've experienced, so if someone tells me about their vacation or something, the only thing I can think of to keep the conversation going is relating to my vacation (unless there's something more I want to know like where they went or who they went with, then I obviously ask them about that).

CloCat17

As someone who also does this, I've found that instead of trying to directly relate with my story, it helps to ask questions about their story or just say what you think about it "oh that's super cool" or "oh man that is a bummer" "no kidding? What was that like?"

kevareva89

But I... okay... um... can I...

People who talk so much and don't let you get a word in sideways. Those people are always oblivious to the fact that they cut you off every tome you try to speak as well.

Fitty-Korman

Twice in my life I've had the courage to straight up walk away from a conversation with a person like this. Leave them alone, mid sentence, after they interrupted me for the hundredth time.

Dudebroman_5000

Please bathe.

Bad hygiene.

Wussupmayne

Yeah this. If your breath smells like you've never seen a toothbrush before and you have to count in days when talking about the last time you showered, then there's no chance I'm into you, no matter how good you look from afar.

MatterStreaming

Both of these are a no from me.

Lights that are left on when there's nobody in the room. I always turn them off immediately.

Sycou

Same with leaving cupboards open. My SO constantly will go to the kitchen in the middle of the night and the next morning I will find every light leading to it turned on and one or two cupboards in the kitchen open.

And if I bring it up she gets wildly offended and thinks I am treating her like a child.

helpdebian

No quickies?

Rushing during sex. If it feels like you dont want to do it, it ruins the whole experience.

Thatt1whiteguy

Oh yeah? Well MY story is better.

One uppers. If you have a story on any topic, they have a bigger and better one.

livefan1

Pfft, that's nothing. I actually know somebody that always has TWO stories that are bigger and better on any topic.

FigBits

Came in to say this. I had a friend like this, and in the end I found myself competing against them when we were talking(because I was so annoyed by their one ups) and no one was listening to the other anymore. There was absolute 0 mutuality in that friendship.

gogumakkang

No one likes a quitter.

Attempted murder.

iamyournewdad

Of course, watching someone fail is such a turn off. successful murder on the other hand...

Available_Mountain

Exactly. If they can't follow through, they are out.

vesomortex

I agree, it shows a lack of commitment.

MonkeyXing

Smoking what? ;-)

Smoking. I don't like the smell and it doesn't help that my father smoked inside all the time.

JakBandiFan

Smoking is disgusting. Like I don't want you to huck up a bucket of tar when I'm with you. Plus I have asthma and I would probably inhale their smoke and it'll suck @ss.

Jynn05

I worked as a home health aide. Just seeing these people who are living penny to penny but still spend money on cigarettes they can't afford and one woman would smoke the butts of unfinished cigarettes just left me wanting to gag and make it one huge turn off.

YoHeadAsplode

Jerks.

Rudeness/lack of compassion. If I'm on a date and the person I'm with is a perfect saint towards me but disrespects the waitstaff or anyone working a service gig, we aren't having a second date.

OfTwOMinds

As a waitstaff myself, I can't help but feel proud for being the mvp exposing people's true character in front of their date. And yeah, with unjustified rudeness being the bane of my job, I definitely have 0 tolerance for it outside work too. Wouldn't want a friend like that.

aerosouul

Same af.

When 99.9% of their conversation topics are pop culture gossip. Sure, it's fun to talk about celebrities and the weird things they do... But there's gotta be other things you can talk about.

Dudebroman_5000

Same. I care more about Cardassians than the Kardashians.

Driver looking at their phone
LOGAN WEAVER | @LGNWVR/Unsplahs

The mundane activities we do on a daily basis put us into auto-pilot, where we don't have to think about what we're doing.

This occurs every day. But maybe we shouldn't assume things will always go well.

Think about it. Drivers who commute don't have to concern themselves with how to get to work or school. But can you assume the drivers with whom you share the road are safe drivers?

Diners at restaurants don't have to worry about eating the foods prepared for them. Are you sure there aren't any foreign–possibly sharp–objects in your entree?

Even acts that are simple as stepping into the shower early in the morning don't have to worry about a single thing.

Did you watch Final Destination?

Everyone has a different relationship with hygiene.

While some people wash their hands every time they enter a new room, and never leave home without a bottle of hand sanitizer, others might not care where their hands have been as they bust open a bag of chips.

However, one thing that both parties have in common is that over time, they might have developed certain practices related to their own personal hygiene that are unique to them.

Helping them either make sure their hands, teeth, and body are as clean as can possibly be or help them get things done as speedily, if not as effectively, as possible.

I have seen many a scary movie.

A horror movie done right can haunt you forever.

Have you seen "The Exorcist?"

Good Lord.

I don't know if I'm ready for the new sequel.

I love to be a little frightened by a movie.

But haunted for life is a different story.

Plus, I can't sleep with the lights on...
