People Reveal Which Spell They'd Try First If Magic Was Real

We've been fantasizing about magic for literally hundreds of years. Whether it's Merlin or Dumbledore, literature or video games, the wonder of magic eventually snags almost all of us. One reddit user asked:

If magic was real, what spell would you try to learn first?

And the answers were honestly not what we expected! We immediately thought to start small, but a lot of people really went with the "go big or go home" approach. If these are the spells people want to try FIRST - well, we're glad magic like in the movies doesn't exist. There would be a lot of insurance claims for spells gone wrong.

Work Naps

[rebelmouse-image 18355802 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I'd love something basic like "Minor Image" or just some easy illusion spells. I could take a nap but make it look like I'm working at my desk.

Soul Trap

[rebelmouse-image 18355804 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Soul trap. It allows you to use the energy from the soul of anything you kill. Every cockroach stomped would just add to my power!

Somebody Didn't See "Butterfly Effect"

[rebelmouse-image 18355805 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

How to change the past.

Pocket Dimension

[rebelmouse-image 18355806 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I doubt you could just learn any spell first. It would probably even be too dangerous to try something way out of your league.

But, I'd work towards a safety spell. I'd make a pocket dimension. I'd put a permanent protection spell on myself that would go off just before I find danger that I'd not be able to survive.

Freeze

[rebelmouse-image 18355807 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Torn between Freeze Time and Reverse Time.

Freeze Time would end up giving you super speed in the eyes of everyone else.

Reverse Time would allow you to undo one mistake.

Every Parent's Dream

[rebelmouse-image 18355808 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Silence. Meaning I can strike anything or anyone in my vicinity silent for as long as I wish.

Moaning Myrtle

[rebelmouse-image 18355809 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

If I'm a teenaged boy at Hogwarts? The one that let's me flirt with Moaning Myrtle.

Sephiroth's Supernova

[rebelmouse-image 18355810 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

The most ridiculous and excessive magical attack in any video game. Sephiroth's Supernova attack from Final Fantasy VII. Maximal timewasting, minimal damage.

New Meaning To "Magic Hands"

[rebelmouse-image 18352181 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Mage hand. Giggity, giggity!

No Cast For You

[rebelmouse-image 18355811 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Brackium Emendo. Skip that whole cast thing and just magically heal a bone.

Switch It Up

[rebelmouse-image 18355812 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I would totally try being the opposite gender, id love to know what makes the other half tick.

Telekinesis

[rebelmouse-image 18355814 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Telekinesis. As kids we've all tried to use the force, now I'm REALLY gonna make it happen. Probably test it on the remote control first of course

Frosty

[rebelmouse-image 18355815 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

A "summon frost atronach" spell because I'm lonely and a giant ice monster seems like a good friend.

So Useful

[rebelmouse-image 18353923 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Teleportation. So many possible uses.

Presto Change-o

[rebelmouse-image 18355816 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Transmutation. Changing one thing into something else could be incredibly handy. I could create gold or turn people into frogs, etc.

Noob Spells

[rebelmouse-image 18355817 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

A cantrip - an easy spell that can be cast at will without using much energy or effort. If you're a noob, you don't go trying to learn big stuff. That's a great way to get hurt.

Bam!

[rebelmouse-image 18355818 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

One where I can give someone explosive diarrhea at will. Any time someone is a jerk for no reason BAM! They crap their pants.

Binge Watch

[rebelmouse-image 18355819 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Stop the time so i could watch my 1h long series episodes in 5 min

Start Small

[rebelmouse-image 18355821 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

The first spell I learn is, like, glow. Literally just making a wand or something glow. You've gotta start easy or you'll f^ck up your spells and suffer in irony.

"What Do You Say?"

[rebelmouse-image 18354377 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Invisibility. I want to see if my kids say thank you when I'm not there to say "what do you say?"

The Craziest Conspiracy Theories People Have Ever Secretly Believed

Reddit user streetancient asked: 'What is the craziest conspiracy theory that you secretly believe in?'

It's hard not to get worn out and dispirited by the seemingly unending conspiracy people continue to promote.

It should be noted that even the people who roll their eyes at those who believe these conspiracies might actually believe a conspiracy theory of their own.

More often than not, these aren't the sort of theories that could bring harm to others, though they still might not share their belief in these theories with others.

Even their closest friends.

Movies can be one of the most entertaining forms of media, but it has to be good.

Seems simple, right?

Some movies are really good. As an avid reader and huge fan of book-to-movie adaptations, I enjoyed the ones that were made well. This included The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hunger Games series, and even Twilight, despite not actually liking the book series.

However, some book-to-movie adaptations were so bad, I wished I hadn't spent time or money on it. The Maximum Ride movie, the two Percy Jackson movies (I can't believe a second one was even made after the disaster that is "The Lightning Theif"), and of course, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

David Yates, who directed the fifth movie, also directed the sixth. Known for directing darker movies, he decided to go in a funnier, lighter direction for the sixth movie and took away all the magic that made Harry Potter so amazing. Luckily, he went back to his talents for the seventh and eigth movie, but I spent a fortune (or what was a fortune for a teenager) getting tickets to the midnight premiere, and I ended up aplogizing to everyone for taking them to see that movie. I will never not be sorry about that.

Redditors are familiar with the experience of paying money to see amovie and wishing they hadn't, and they are eager to share.

Money can be the root of all evil.

But it can also be the root of all happiness.

What a pendulum.

There are some things that money simply makes easier.

And so many wealthy people try to downplay that truth.

Wouldn't it be nice to vacation whenever and wherever?

Or imagine getting sick and not caring about a co-pay or even a bill?

We all have things that we enjoy and things that we absolutely can't stand, and that's also totally true of the things that people do around us or do to us.

And women have something to say about men's behavior, how they treat women, and what women would like them to stop doing, effective immediately.
