The other night, my friends and I were having a conversation about AirPods. Nothing against them per se––you do you, boo––but they cost a ridiculous amount of money and are very easy to lose. On top of that, now there are straps for the AirPods on the market... you might as well have gotten a pair of headphones.

After Redditor easywaycentre asked the online community, "What do you consider a huge waste of money?" people weighed in. The things that people spend their money on never cease to amaze me.

"Seriously..."

Buying designer clothes for babies. Seriously, your 6 month old is going to out grow those $75 Nikes in like two weeks.

"Sometimes..."

Any warranties on cheap items. Sometimes the warranty itself can equal upwards of almost 25% of the product's full retail price. And I'm not being even remotely hyperbolic when I say this.

"Do your own thing..."

In the music production hobby - anyone selling you a dream.

Rule of thumb for the amateur crowd is that if they are selling you how to make your music better, they are legit. If they are selling you how to become famous, it's a scam.

Do your own thing and focus on the music. Once your music is really good you'll have more time to think about it, but there are so many people putting the marketing before the music.

It seems like every other ad I see is some private course on how to become a famous musician, from musicians I never heard of.

HandHoldingClub

"My family..."

Scratch-offs. My family all buy each other a bunch every Christmas and no one ever wins more than a couple dollars. It's basically a family tradition to set a couple hundred dollars on fire and when it's a pile of ash announce, "Well at least we had fun doing it!"

Ryguy55

"They are only expensive..."

Diamonds. They are only expensive because the people who sell the diamonds have a monopoly and only release small amounts of diamonds, creative artificial scarcity. It's like if copper costed 1000 times as much as it does, and everybody thought that having a ring made of it is a huge symbol of love because some famous people told their parents and grandparents so.

BZZBBZ

"It's disgusting."

Election campaigns.

All that money they waste, just to try to combat the lazy ignorance of masses of people who can't be bothered to research a candidate's personal record and platform.

Think of all the good things that money could be doing for the American people.

It's disgusting.

GingerMau

"I see my coworkers..."

Buying a meal out every day. I see my coworkers go buy lunch and complain how expensive it was or lament about what to order for dinner every night. Buy yourself some damn ingredients and make a week's worth for the price of one meal out!

Akire32

"I've never been to a casino..."

Gambling. I've never been to a casino because if I even lost 1 dollar I would feel like a total idiot.

sometribe

"There are so many better things..."

Expensive weddings. There are so many better things a newlywed couple can do with 5000$+ than throwing a party they likely won't even enjoy.

MostDopeTurtle

"My mother-in-law..."

Expensive haircuts. My mother-in-law pays $400-$600 every month for a cut, treatment, and some stupid "Brazilian blow out" so every time she says she's on the way to the hairdresser I cringe a little inside.

One must really hate their job in order for them to get fired.

Depending on the actual job, it's not that difficult to follow established rules and work protocols. Deviating from them just to get terminated can take more effort.

That is, of course, the employees are completely inept or severely disgruntled and have no problem going on a self-sabotaging mission to be let go.

Why can't they just quit, you ask? Well, that'll be less dramatic.

For many people, escaping to the woods, either in a tent or a cabin, is just what they need to escape from their current realities and reset their mind.

Allowing themselves to be one with nature, and cut off from technology.

Not everyone finds the woods a peaceful place, however.

Indeed, being cut off from the rest of the world, all the while surrounded by wildlife, it's easy to see why some people find the woods scary, and not at all relaxing.

Particularly if their time in the woods included an experience which made them never want to return, ever again.

The older you get, the more you realize that having a worldview can be a disappointing aspect of life.

It's all the knowledge we acquire.

Sure, the more you know, the smarter you get.

But the more you know, the less you can pretend.

History can be difficult to learn.

Everything opinion and thought can change in an instant.

Sometimes that is a great thing.

Sometimes... not so much.

Whether we're huge television watchers or not, most of us have at least one television show that we've really enjoyed.

And all too often, the show ends long before we're ready for that final episode, and we dream of a reunion episode or encore season.
