People Describe The Most Useless Thing They've Ever Purchased

Not everything we buy in consumer culture is necessary. Sometimes it's literally a complete waste of money.

For example, most of the things aimed to make you pick up the phone and buy things from TV will ultimately waste your money. It will sit in your closet and do absolutely nothing but take up space for years until you sell it in a garage sale.

Redditor u/EmploymentLonely2142 asked:

"What's the most useless thing you've ever bought?"

Here were some of the answers:

Amazon Isn't Known For Quality

"I bought these ice trays on Amazon that make tiny ice cubes. The only way I've been able to get the ice out is to slightly melt it, but since the cubes are so small, there's basically nothing left."

"I am blown away by the number of people who think I haven't tried advanced tactics such as twisting the tray or running warm water on it." -PhantasmHS

Shoes For Days

"Several pairs of uncomfortable shoes that I never wear and are taking up space in my closet."--LanguageTradition20

"This is me! I also won't get rid of them I kind of wish someone would break in while I'm away and take all my clothes and shoes so then the issue is sorted but I didn't have to get rid of them myself"-lil_miss_savage

A Little Infograph

"Bought a periodic table which had all the elements inside.... Except it didn't, it just had a super low resolution print of the elements onto an acrylic block."

"When I asked for my money back for false advertising they wanted me to send it back to China within 5 days. Think it's in a drawer somewhere."-Mikey3DD

Yeah, none of these things....were worth the money.

Occupational Hazard Of Steam

"I have over 1200 games and haven't even installed (even once) about 75% of them. Of the installed ones (prior to an HD dying) I've played, in the last 10 years, probably around 100."

"Of these 100, probably less than 30 have any significant amount of time invested in them. Of these, about 10 are ones I feel like playing at any given time."

"I've gotten better about sales and bundles but I still have my moments of weakness."-Firebrand713

Wave O' Babies

"My wife wanted a baby changing table and my mom said we wouldn't need one and to hold off a couple weeks after the baby was born to buy one. My wife and mom are really close so she trusted her."

"Then she suggested those mobile pads that hold a couple.wipes and diapers and said buy 3. One for the car, one for the diaper bag and one for the house."

"Never did buy a changing table. Change that baby whenever and wherever you can quickly and move on. Lesson learned."-Kalel_is_king

Cats Are Chaos

"For my cat, an expensive and luxurious bed. When I brought it home, the little guy smelt it, sat on it for a few seconds, and then never used it again."

"Instead of sleeping in his nice and cozy bed, he prefers to sleep on the hardwood floor..."-Amazing_Researcher37

Former Anti-Vaxxers Explain What Actually Made Them Change Their Mind | George Takei’s Oh Myyy

Vroom Vroooooooooom

"Pore vacuums. Please no one buy these. You risk making your pore sizes way worse and therefore getting more clogged pores, what you're most likely seeing as sebaceous filaments which are normal and you'll never get rid of (only reduce visibility)."

"And you're risking short term things like bruises but also permanent damage like broken capillaries. You can go to a med spa for a professional facial with someone who has the right kit and right know how but don't do it yourself"-lizziexo

Sometimes we really just need to put the things back on the shelves.

Once Again, Chaotic Cats

"A 'pet door.' We installed the flapping device in the door so the cat could go in and out at will."

"Turns out our cat is 'afraid' of it and won't use the pet door, no matter what. (There's something about pushing his head against it to make it swing to and fro that scares him . . .)"-Back2Bach

Money Compulsions

"I have an issue with money spending compulsions (a lot due to growing up poor) I have bought many random things I've never used or wondered why I bought them."

"The one that takes the cake is a pair of chicken decorations that cost me 60 dollars. I saw them and had the money so I bought them."

"They were literal polystyrene with feathers glued on them and I was halfway home when I realised I didn't want them. Tried to return them but could only get store credit, so ended up keeping them lol."-DORIMEalbedo

Didgeridoo

"A large didgeridoo carved out of a tree limb that I bought when I was in Australia years ago. I cannot play it, and on top of that, the resin mouthpiece/seal has gone missing. It basically sits there, collecting dust, as a conversation piece."

"A picture of it, with flip-flop for scale."-Dahhhkness

The lesson is learned, we certainly will keep our credit cards in our wallet the next time we consider making an impulse buy.

But what have we already bought that is completely useless?

While we may not all enjoy studying history, we all have certain types of stories that interest us, and one that seems to catch everyone's attention are the hard-to-believe, almost far-fetched tales.

Interestingly enough, history is full of these stories, leaving many to believe that reality is truly stranger than fiction.

Anyone raising children can attest to the difficult challenges involved with being a parent.

And despite every intention of getting it right by doing the best job they can, not everyone is a perfect at being mom or dad.

Hopefully, people will be able to look back on their childhood and recognize that everything their folks did for them was all out of love.

If only that was the case.

Unfortunately, there are those who were never meant to be parents and have scarred their children with bad memories.

Be it for clothes, household appliances, or food, sometimes you know you can be one hundred percent confident with certain brands or companies when shopping that you will be getting a quality product.

Unfortunately, this goes both ways.

Some companies have a reputation for exclusively selling and manufacturing low-quality products.

One would think that these companies might reflect on poor sales and bad customer feedback, and attempt to improve their brand with each passing year.

Unfortunately, even if they still get items on the shelf, reviews on Amazon and elsewhere still seem to remain at two stars or less.
