Not all kids are perfect. Yes parents like to believe so but that is just not the truth. The first people to notice an "out of the ordinary kid" are parents of other children. Be watchful.. your kids will pick up strays wherever... animal or human. And that can be a positive human trait.

I'm the sister in this story, my kids are not old enough to bring friends by themselves just yet - thank god.

My brother had a "girlfriend" when he was about 9 or 10 and she became my friend in the process. Anyway, i asked her if she wanted to have a sleep over and she said yes.

She comes over, my mom asks if she's staying the night and if so to call her parents and ask if they'd like to meet before hand and to bring over a change of clothes and pjs.

She calls her dad, he doesn't want to meet (what?) but says yes and agrees to bring over some clothes. About 30 minutes later a car pulls up while we're outside, my friend says hi, her dad says open the back door and he pushes out two huge black garbage bags stuffed full of clothes.

It must've been everything she owned. He then says shut the door and he takes off. We carry this stuff in and my moms face was one of confusion and wtf did I agree to.

She stayed for almost a week before my mom said no more and called her parents (multiple times) to come get her.

I have no idea why her parents did that. No clue why they didnt call their 8 year old daughter for a week and she didnt at all think this was strange.

I went over to her house after this and it was chaos.

This kid lives down the road and shows up to take things from my kids: their bikes, their shoes, literally anything that isn't bolted down. It's weird when he takes their bikes, because he bikes to our house.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't go to school? It is usually after the kids are in class he will just walk up in our house and be watching tv. We have to tell him to go home often because he either is being raised by wolves or doesn't care

I had neighbors like this growing up. The youngest child was the same age as my sister and I swear the girl had NO home training. She would come inside the house and just play with our toys or eat food or come into bedrooms to wake someone up. After the second time my parents started locking the door every night. (Lived way out in the country so there was no need to lock doors) The kids would steal any toys we left outside which made zero sense because my siblings and I played with them every day. We would always take the stuff back. (roller skates, Big Wheels, jump ropes, an entire kiddie pool...) Got to the point that we had to bring every single outdoor toy in with us at the end of the day and us no longer being allowed to play with them because the parents would send them over late at night to ask for groceries. It was weird.

My son brought home a kid to play at our house when he was in 3rd grade. This kid was a giant bundle of nervous energy and always getting trouble. Doing things he wasn't suppose to. It didn't matter how many times you warned him, he didn't seem to listen. It was the next day that I discovered one of my son's Super Soaker water guns lying in the flower bed. When I picked it up, i noticed a strange smell of gasoline. He must have used my 1 gallon plastic gasoline can i store next to my mower and filled the gun up with this flammable fluid. We put a ban on him coming over again.

My kids were the weird ones. Other kids were normal.

My son is very extroverted and active. He'll go outside to ride bikes with a few friends and come back with a dozen or I drop him off at practice solo and have 5 kids pile into my car after. At this point I just ask him to text me how many people are eating dinner here and do a quick head count before they all head to sleep. I check with the parents to make sure it's okay if the kid is new to the group, but that's about it. Our house is the main hang out spot so he has brought home a lot of kids over the years. Most have been normal. Some have been weird.

The weirdest was last summer. The boys woke up and were making breakfast before they realized Joshua was missing. They all knew Joshua from school and he had been over our house a couple times before to swim and he went paintballing with the group once, but this was his first time sleeping over. No one knew where he was. They all said that he was upstairs with them last night but no one remembered seeing him go to sleep. The kids were 12 then so I figured he might have just biked home and I texted his mom. She said he wasn't home and asked us if we checked the roof. I thought that was weird but we went outside and, sure enough, Joshua was asleep on the roof. He has insomnia and apparently goes outside to stargaze sometimes when he can't fall asleep. He sometimes accidentally falls asleep on the roof. That would have been nice to know before hand. He still comes over sometimes but he hasn't fallen asleep on the roof since last year. He has fallen asleep in random spots around the house though.

My step-daughter brought a girl back after school once, a very odd girl. They'd have been about 12 at the time. So I asked if she wanted to stay for tea which she did. Then a little while later I asked when her mum was picking her up and this was her reply, "I have asked mother to collect me at 17:38 So that is when I shall leave, oh and if I feel like coming tomorrow can we have something better for tea."

She was not back again tomorrow.

Annnnnd...then what?

Your mom: laughed? called her parents to come get her? handed her a can opener and a skillet? ran her out of the house?

Obligatory not a parent, but when I was in middle school I brought a friend home from school. I was the kid in middle and high school who made good friends with the "weird" kids who no one else gave the time of day.

The night went pretty normal, teenage dudes playing video games and junk. We went to bed pretty damn late at night and when I woke up I smelled wonderful bacon and eggs cooking in the kitchen. I was somewhat surprised my mom had gotten up so early to cook as I inherited my groggy hate the morning attitude from her.

I came out to the living room the same time she did, both of us in our PJs. My friend was in the kitchen wearing her apron and cooking everyone breakfast as a thank you for being so cool with him. It was definitely odd but my mom was totally on board with not having to cook.

Another friend I had about the same time would meow and bark at people like an animal, which my mother appreciated a lot less.
