People Reveal Behind The Scenes Facts About Captain Marvel
Marvel Studios, LLC

Captain Marvel will be released in just under a month on March 8th, so we've got some interesting facts about the movie, cast and crew for you!

10. Back To The 90s!

Captain Marvel is takes place in the 1990s, so we're all in for a blast from the past. When MTV asked asked Kevin Feige why the decision was made to have the film take place in the 90s, he said:

"Uh, well, there is an unexplored period of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we wanted to showcase, and... almost anything else is a spoiler... other than to say, the 90s would be a fun period to make a superhero movie in."

9. There's A Kitty!

Giphy

He's an orange tabby named Goose. His name is, of course, a Top Gun reference.

There were actually four different cats that played Goose. Similar to the cat Chewie from the Captain Marvel comics, it seems that Goose is a little more than your ordinary house cat. Lashana Lynch talked about Goose in an interview with SyFy:

"It's not fully a cat. It's a mysterious cat. The cat does things that we didn't expect for it to do, and it's very surprising, and it could happen at random times."

8. Larson's Training Routine For The Part Is Seriously Hardcore!

She discussed her fitness routine in an interview with the LA Times:

"Carol is a trained warrior and I can barely walk in a straight line. So for me to get to the point where I can do all of the things that were required of me meant really putting myself to the test and dedicating a lot of hours to it."

Her routine included:

"Muscle-building exercises included 215-pound deadlifts, 400-pound hip thrusts and single-leg lunges with 40 pounds of weight in hand and 10 pounds strapped to each leg."

"I'd do an hour and a half of cardio or strength training, go eat a bunch of food, pass out for an hour and then put on another set of exercise clothes and go to the stunt gym to do fight training and wire work stuff for another two hours after that."

Her training even included pushing a 5000 lb. Jeep!

That takes some serious dedication to the part!

7. Brie Larson Is Using The Movie's Press Tour To Encourage Inclusivity In Press Coverage

"About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies, and noticed it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male. So, I spoke to Dr Stacy Smith at the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, who put together a study to confirm that. Moving forward, I decided to make sure my press days were more inclusive.

Brie invited Keah Brown, a black disabled journalist, to do a face-to face interview her for Marie Claire.

She has also spoken several times about how she wants to increase inclusivity and diversity in the way her movies are covered in the press.

6. The Movie Will Heavily Feature Danvers' Military Service

Instead of glossing over Col. Carol Danvers' time in the United States Air Force, it is actually a strong focus of the film. This is quite evident in the official trailer released in September. In an article for Task & Purpose, Jared Keller likened the trailer to an old USAF recruiting video, and he's not wrong. Danvers' flashbacks during the latter half of the trailer show her progression from teen, to cadet, to ace pilot, and then to badass super hero.

Brie Larson actually spent time at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada in preparation for the film. According toTask & Purpose, Larson "got a quick hip-pocket class on an F-15 that flew in the Gulf War, flew in an F-16, took part in simulated dog fights on both offense and defense." She also had the opportunity to meet with the USAF's first female fighter pilot, Brig. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt.

7. We Get To See A Younger Nick Fury—Without His Signature Eyepatch

Samuel L Jackson was reportedly quite surprised by how well he had been "de-aged" for the film. "Wow, this Marvel de-aging thing is doper than I thought!" said Jackson on Instagram.

Fury will feature heavily in the film, as he is the one who discovers Danvers on Earth.

6. No Skimpy Suits For Captain Marvel

Both Brie Larson and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige were in agreement that Carol Danvers costume in the film needed to be something substantial. In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Feige recalled when Larson saw some of the back issues of Captain Marvel displayed:

"If you look at the comics, the further you go back, the less clothes Carol Danvers seems to be wearing. Oftentimes it's a one-piece bathing suit basically, with outrageous comic proportions. … Brie pointed it out on the wall, and we went, 'Yeah … just so you know, that's not what we're doing.' She goes, 'OK. I didn't think so, but I'm glad you said that.'"

It's a good thing they didn't, too; her suit for the movie is awesomely badass, and covers enough to actually provide some protection.

Agent Phil Coulson Is Finally Back In The Film Side Of Things

Clark Gregg is reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, though a much younger, fresher version of him. In Iron Man, Coulson tells Stark that that wasn't his "first rodeo" but Iron Man takes place in 2010, while Captain Marvel takes place in the 90s, so this could very well be Coulson's first exposure to crisis management for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Coulson has been the major link between several MCU films, showing up when things get out of hand and somehow keeping everything under the radar when possible. He has also been a major character in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Two Directors

The film is being co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Boden and Fleck have worked together on films before, but never anything of quite this scale. They co-directed It's Kind of A Funny Story (which starred Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts) and Mississippi Grind (which starred Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds).

Some fans were a bit confused by the pick, but Marvel Studios has a habit of finding the best director for a project, rather than just sticking with the big names. Many fans are now anxious to see what the two have done with Carol Danvers' story.

Annette Bening Will Be In The Film, But Nobody Knows Who She's Playing

This will be Bening's first super hero movie; she is usually known for not working with large studios. Marvel Studios has kept things close to the chest regarding Bening's character, which has led to much speculation among fans online.

The internet being the internet, the wild theories range from Bening playing everything from Carol Danvers' mother, to Phyla-Vell, to the Supreme Intelligence.

It's not super likely an announcement will be made this close to the release of the film, so I guess we all have no choice but to wait and see!

Important Lessons People Have Learned The Hard Way

Reddit user IndianaC0NES asked: 'What’s an important lesson you learned the hard way?'

We've all had to learn something the hard way or at a super inconvenient time.

But because we're always learning new things, of course there will have to be some things that we learn later, rather than sooner, no matter the consequences of learning it too late.

From a young age, we've all had it drilled into us the importance of finding a good job that we can work at for the rest of our lives.

Emotions are high at weddings, with the bride and groom going through various stages of anxiety and excitement.

During those stages, seeing how well a newly wedding couple interacts with each other as well as with other family members and friends under pressure can indicate how well they work together as a team.

If professional wedding photographers had years of experience capturing one of the most monumental milestones for couples, they would be able to identify if a couple can make it for the long haul.

We've all found ourselves in a position where we simply couldn't contain ourselves and found ourselves putting someone in their place owing to something they said which was either wrong or just plain stupid.

When it comes to the latter category, though, it's often worth taking a minute to wonder if fighting that particular battle is even worth it.

As many people who are about to shoot down their current conversation partner might take a minute and really examine the person they're talking with before remembering the old saying: "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Sadly, some people remember this conversation too late, and find themselves falling down a conversational rabbit hole from which they may never escape.
